There is NO backlight. just plug in into an extension before using.
This is a great little machine, especially for the price. I don't know why so many people complain and knock off stars because it has no back light. I doubt if anyone buys anything these days without reading some reviews on the product, so they know before buying that there is NO backlight, and then go on to complain about it. The same with the instructions, we all know that anything from China is written in Chinglish, yet people buy the item for less than half the price of a British item, and then complain about the instructions. If anyone can't work out how to use this item in 5 minutes, they shouldn't be using such dangerous equipment.

Nice and accurate, if basic.
More accurate than old one (main reason for purchase); looks to be within a Watt or so at low power, as per the spec. Only downside is that it has only the most basic capabilities, so power factor, VA, no dual rate and no display when unplugged, though it does remember the totals. But again, the main thing is that it appears to be accurate.

Very easy to use
I bought this basic but practical energy monitor to measure power being drawn by the various plugged devices in my home as an alternative to more complex smart plug-in versions that have become popular. This monitor is simplicity itself as you just plug it into your wall socket then subsequently plug in the item that is being measured and switch on. At this point power being drawn is instantly displayed (in kilowatts) and you can scroll down the menu to view accumulated kilowatt hours. The major discovery I made was that most LCD bulbs consume about 25% more than their official rating, so these have all been replaced by new LED bulbs and the payback period will be about one year. Also beware older items on standby (VCRs etc) that can consume an ongoing figure of 10 Watts rather than the quoted 1 Watt, which adds about ยฃ15 a year for the typical electric bill.I recommend this purchase.

Great basic power monitor
Still working great after 3 years of occasional use. I wasn't interest in a LED backlit one, just a good basic design. Very reliable and has proven very useful with understanding how much power every day devices actually use.

Good no frills instrument
Does a good 'no frills attached' job. Seems accurate enough, good value. The plain digital indicator is not backlit and rather small but apart from that I am satisfied with the purchase.

Value for money exactly what I needed for my application.
I have a pond pump and UV light and the only way of knowing when the UV light had failed was when the pond water deteriorated which also meant the pond pump, filter and pond itsenf had to be cleaned. With this I can monitor the wattage and when the wattage falls below the usual reading in know the UV lamp needs replacing. Easy to program but as others have said the display is not backlit but a real plus is it can and does measure low wattages. You need to be in line with the display to read it and depending on the application you may need a torch.

Ok
These are ok as they plug in, they only plug into one appliance though. It would be far better if it had WI.Fi capability

Useful for testing always-on or power hungry home appliances
I had no problem figuring out how to work it. I was most concerned that it could be used in a double socket alongside another plug - and it can. From what I can tell it does seem to be accurate. I would say that if you do plan on plugging a square adapter plug into it, so you can test the power consumption of say 2 related devices, then you will lose the ability to push the buttons and change the disply mode. Not a deal breaker, but I had a taller old one which coped well with that. Now that old one did not have a long life, so I hope this one will last longer.
