What was I thinking of?? ….
…. wasting time I’ll never get back sawing home-made loaves to bits with a knife! And losing the will to live in the process. After hacking away forever by hand in my wooden slatted slicing thingie, which managed the rare feat of cutting more wood than it did bread, and slices that could be anything from 1-20cm and often all at once, I did the “life’s too short” thing and ordered this. I don’t know how I managed without. It is simply wonderful, a good quality piece of kit. Arrived promptly, 2-year warranty, needs no set-up as it’s already fitted with an all-purpose blade. It also comes with two separate boxed blades, for ham and bread. I changed blade immediately for the bread one, easy enough to do as all you need is a 2p coin or similar, unscrew the central piece and off pops the blade, ready to be exchanged. They are sharp though so care should be taken at all times. I left my loaf to cool for at least an hour so it wasn’t too squishy, then set to. The thickness of slice is adjusted by a dial at the rear which can be turned to anything from 1-15cm and then you simply pop the item to be sliced on the platform (there’s a safety guard to protect your hands), turn the machine on, and gently slide the platform towards the spinning blade. Just don’t push the item hard against the back plate, that will spoil the cut and a gentle touch is all that’s needed. Easy enough as well to clean, just clear the crumbs away and wipe with a damp cloth. The blade too is easily removed each time for a quick wipe. A handy tip in the instructions for new-baked bread, is to dampen the blade slightly first to stop it “sticking” on the soft bread. It’s quick and easy to use, and the end product is smoothly cut and professional. I tried it on the full 15cm thickness (as in photo) for a proper nice toastie, but if you change your mind half way through, just stop the machine, adjust the dial and restart. I’m only using it for bread just now but have no doubt it’ll perform equally well with other foods. Worth every penny. Waste no more time and tears with your old bread knife, just buy this and reclaim your life and sanity! And just think what you could do with the time you save: put the bins out, find that missing sock, de-flea the pooch, the list is endless!

An Excellent Qualty Slicer at an Affordable Price
Why did you choose this product over others?: It had a good rating and there were 3 types of blade(bread, meat and cheese). The blades were easily changed and this made it easier to clean blades and machine. Thickness: It had a good range of thickness values for different foodstuff. Sturdiness: It was very sturdy but not too heavy to move around. Functionality: This machine functioned well and enabled to adjust and slice many food stuffs including vegetables😟 Ease of use: Very easy to use and clean. Vegetable quality: cuts a range of veg such as cucumber and carrots Quality: It is robust and made from quality materials.

Price and flexibility
Good slicer but a few perks wouldn’t go amiss For instance:- easier to remove blade, Tray to catch meat etc when slicing State what the blade which was in machine should be used for

Good product.
Good quality sturdy slicer with three different cutting discs. I use it to slice part frozen chicken for my dogs treats. The machine doesn’t like part frozen food and produces a variety of thicknesses when on the smallest setting. For cooked products it is excellent, there are lots of thickness settings and it does a great job. It is reasonably easy to clean with the component parts coming apart. It is safe to use, with the guards. Blades are very sharp. Love Andrew James products - they last. Very good price for a great product.

Excellent machine for cutting home made bread and home cooked ham
This is an amazing purchase. We cut home made bread and home cooked ham. Bread has to be on a 10mm setting, but ham on an almost zero mm setting. It is powerful and cuts both well. To clean, we have found it easier to hoover up the bread crumbs rather than with a cloth - this works well. It is then cleaned with a damp cloth. An excellent buy

Superb - and long lasting - bread slicer
We bought this after a couple of failed attempts at using (rather cheap) manual slicers for our home-made loaves (from a Panasonic SD-2501). The manual slicers each managed about a month's service before breaking. After giving up on the 10 quid options and realizing that we were going to have to spend a bit more to get a decent slicer, it became a choice between "The Neat Bread Slicer" (another manual slicer, albeit a very nice looking sturdy one, price 50 quid), or this electric slicer (also 50 quid). Despite a few worrying reviews from people complaining about it tearing the bread, we decided to go for the electric option and so far it's turned out to be an excellent choice. The good points: provided the bread isn't ridiculously crusty (like a French-style loaf), it's had no problems slicing neatly and cleanly. The crust can take a little patience (just go slow), and I'm not convinced the included "bread blade" is actually better than the "universal blade" that is installed by default (we generally just stick with the universal blade), but I'm happy to report no problems at all with slicing bread (do wait for it to cool first though - you can't slice it fresh out of the oven!). The variable width controls are also handy; personally I like quite a thin slice - 10-11mm, while my girlfriend is enamoured of chunky slices at the maximum 15mm the unit offers. We've also used it for slicing cheese (absolutely no problems at all - fantastic results). The one thing we've yet to try it with is a joint of ham, but given the successes so far, I anticipate no serious problems in this area. Safety-wise, the unit is excellent - every part of the blade that can be reasonably covered, is. The guards on the food tray, and the blade lock all feel sturdy (despite being plastic). Some reviewers have noted the unit feels slow - I'd say it doesn't look like a circular saw when it's running, but then it's meant for cutting food, not wood. Despite the relatively slow revolutions of the blade, it's never struggled with anything we've put through it (although you may have to go a little slower on tough things). The bad points: as other reviewers have pointed out, the locations where pieces of the unit attach to the main body are annoyingly good at collecting crumbs and debris, and are a bit of a pain to clean. I realize it's a reasonably cheap unit and therefore a single-shell construction is asking a bit much - but given it's a device which will need regular cleaning a little more thought could've gone into this aspect of the design. The power button feels a little oddly positioned and it's a little strange that it's an on-off toggle. I would've thought it would be safer to have a hold-on button on the opposite side to ensure one is holding the unit with both hands when operating (although come to think of it, that would make it unusable for anyone with one arm). Overall, very satisfied. I think we've found our solution to slicing home-made bread. Update: it's now 9 years later ... and this unit is still going strong! Not replaced a single thing, despite it getting a daily work-out slicing stuff. Mostly bread, so I can't pretend we're really stressing it but still: 9 years solid service is nothing to sneeze at these days! Upgrading to 5 stars because although my quibbles above still stand, I can forgive them all for the sheer longevity and reliability.

A home slicer with 3 blades, at a very decent price, you could buy worse!!!!!
This is my 2nd review regarding this machine but the first was to berate customer services after the wrong item entirely was delivered and the subsequent correspondence made me think I'd done wrong ordering this item. However, having had the correct item for a week now, I can say that I am highly delighted with it. It's heavier than most but this means that it stays where you put it to slice your food. It's well made, sturdy, quiet enough and is so easy to clean. With the help of a chisel edged artist's brush to get into a couple of nooks and using anti-bacterial spray, it's clean in no time. The machine comes with 3 blades but I have to say that the bread blade could have done with the teeth having a more serrated outline rather than a rounded tooth. I've cut 4 different cold meats of varying texture and it sliced them easily to the thickness required (we like thin for sandwiches) but it also cut the hot roast beef joint easily as well, to a thicker degree. Also, there was hardly any sign of shavings waste after the cutting which you get especially with an electric knife. The small bloomer loaf was a little more difficult because as it was quite soft and you had to tease the blade through the outer crust but once through it sliced it quickly and evenly. The amount of meat we got after slicing the remainder of the cold beef was amazing, much more than with regular carving knifes (well in my case lol).I haven't tried potatoes, onions, tomatoes etc' but I've no doubt the machine will cope with them. I've already mentioned the bread blade but the only other quibble is that the carriage could do with another 1/2"-1" travel. Apart from these 2 points, for a home slicer with 3 blades, at a very decent price, you could buy worse.

Excellent for the price
This product is excellent value for money if you are sick of cooking a Sunday Roast to perfection, only to ruin it in presentation by hacking it up roughly with tongs and a carving knife. This machine can then be used on the cold leftover bit of the joint to thinly slice the perfect Sunday supper sandwich meat. If, like me, you also cure your own meat (pastrami or bacon for example)then this machine is a must in order to get that perfect thin and even slice. If you make your own ham too, in order to get that real ham taste (rather than that awful, watery supermarket stuff) then this machine is perfect for making that ham go further, or giving you that professional wafer thin look and taste... The same goes for home-baked bread; no more door wedge sandwiches, as this machine gives your own bread the perfect slices too. The machine itself isn't as heavy as you think it might be (at least to me, it wasn't) but the build quality is very good nonetheless. It's a bit noisy for its size, but nothing that is a deal breaker. This slicer could probably do with having a more powerful motor, as it slows down a little too much for my liking, even when you put light stuff like bread through it... meaning it could probably do with a motor that has more grunt. The Slicer comes with a universal blade fitted that cuts most things quite well (like roast meat) and two extra specialist blades come boxed separately... one for wafer thin ham/salami etc, the other one just for bread. Changing the blades is uncomplicated, quick and easy to do. Cleaning is a breeze, and I can't understand how some people are saying it isn't... Most times a simple wipe down with a damp cloth does the trick. Every now and again it may be necessary to remove the blade and give the machine a more thorough clean, but as I said above, doing so is quick and easy. Over all; a good and versatile product that is exceptionally good value for money.

Trop bien
