The seat and lid stay about 3 inches open and** A: I cant say I'm aware of a reccomended toilet seat, ive got some cheap one that was here when I moved in, plastic garbage. Fits just fine. If I were you I would inspect what is causing it to stay open. I'm assuming you mean the tip of the rim is above that of the bowl by about 3 inches, if that's the case there must either be some obstruction further down propping it up, hinge design incompatibility, or otherwise physical restraint to it falling down completely. Maybe your seat has one of those rubber things under neath that helps support it propperly when people sit on it but that may be hitting the newly installed device causing the lift. Maybe the seat you have isn't appropriately shaped to be able to conform around the device in such a way that it rests down properly. Either way if you inspect around the hinge and specifically at whichever area/point makes contact between the seat and device/bowl first than that will probably be the source of your problem. At that point if you can't rig something on to or off from either the device or seat you have, such that they could work together, than your only remaining option would be to replace one or the other. This would allow cold/hot water to flow through the system to whichever is currently in use anywhere in the house. Another possible reason is a defective unit, if this is the case you would see some form of leak somewhere from the unit itself, possibly from the connections, possibly from internal connections you cant see, those would be difficult to diagnose until they fill up the inside area of the unit and start to flow out of a seam somewhere. **Q: How does hot water work?
