This tape seems simple but appears to do a good job of reflecting heat so it doesn’t heat your intake pipe through exposure to hot temperatures in the engine bay. Many years ago, when I was young and less informed, I decided to install a “cold air” intake in my 2002 Expedition because it looked cool, sounded cool and promised additional numbers I quite did not understand. Fast forward almost two decades and now that I really appreciate my cars, I was left hoping I had not throw away the original intake assembly. Having thought of installing a closed-box intake to reduce exposure to hot air, I decided to first try these type of products before spending a couple of hundreds in another kit. As far as testing, I ran the car without the tape in the early morning, with a Miami temperature of 89 F, while taking my kid to school, and noticed that within 15 minutes of driving, the temperature spread between the intake and the ambient temperature was between 30-40 degrees (89F ambient, 119-130 IAT) at idle. While cruising at 35-45mph, the temperature difference was between 9-15 degrees, which is not bad. Once I taped the intake, I idled the car for about 20 minutes and noticed that the temperature spread was not more than 5 degrees more or less (87 ambient, 90-92 IAT). Obviously this is not an apple to apple test, yet, since the engine is bound to get hotter during periods of acceleration and idling while routine driving, so I am looking forward to testing it tomorrow in our morning drive to school, at the same time, same route, same speeds and likely similar ambient temperature Installing was easy but patience is key. I did, however, not have enough to fully wrap the pipe components with this 15’ roll, and am weary about spending another $30 for another roll unless I see true benefits. I did see other much cheaper rolls listed here, but probably are just gimmicks so didn’t want to waste my time as this brand was recommended by multiple online reviews. In theory, it seems like a sure way to care for your engine by providing it fresh ambient like air temperatures, which translate into better performance and likely less strain, more so for an older engine like this. And seeing how I like to drive my 2002 Expedition more than my 2025 Suburban, I want this thing to last as long as I can get it to!
