Which is more effective, the scaraway gel or the scaraway strips?

I've only used the gel. However most opinion seems to be that if the scar is in a location where you can use the strips they work better if applied continuously, probably because they exert downward pressure on scars that are raised. But strips are less convenient to use, and for facial scars, or scars where the skin will be moving like across joints the gel will be much less noticeable and more practical.

My son had a nasty case of chicken pox, he didn't scratch however has still been left with a lot of pitted scars on his forehead, would this help?

I think silicone gels are supposed to be far more effective for levelling out raised scarring than pitted, simply because with pitted scarring there isn't the tissue to work with. But it won't do any harm, over time it may improve the texture so they're less noticeable, if not raise them to the surrounding skin. To do that properly I think you're looking at surgical options but probably you should consult a plastic surgeon. Having said that, one end of my scar was noticeably depressed, and after several months use it's much less than before.
