Early days, but seems like awesome camera and lens
I wanted to step up to a DSLR and I originally got the Pentax KP because it was at a crazy low price for a while with a kit lens on Amazon. The KP I got turned out to be faulty and wouldn't autofocus through the EVF at all, so it went back. To be honest though aside from the fault, I didnt really like it anyway, it comes with 3 grips which are all really horrible and I didnt like the outward only facing LCD either, plus I am sure its very capable in the right hands, but it was just too much for me. So instead i went for the K70 with a great lens instead. I have been super impressed, it feels great to hold, its a bit heavy, but that adds to the quality feel and its pretty compact really ,the 18-135 lens is ideal for me. Menus are pretty straightforward to navigate the menus and manual. A lot to learn but loving so far.

Awesome camera! Got it for 700 pounds with the 50mm lens. Way better than what I would have gotten from Canon or Nikon. The lens is superb and I like how precise it feels in the hand. The bad things I would mention is the bad mobile App and the shutter noise that is louder than usual DSLR. PENTAX is love!

Not quite perfect ...
I've been trying out this camera for a while now but I still feel like I have barely scratched the surface. I have not used a DSLR before and I think I may need to take some lessons to make the most of it. It is complicated to get your head around (there is a weighty instruction manual in the box) - you can shoot in auto mode (and there are various pre-set modes to try out) or you can take control and adjust the settings for yourself. I had most fun adjusting the focus and playing with the depth of field - once I spotted the auto / manual focus switch on the side of the camera! I had expected to be able to switch the auto focus on and off in the digital menu (where all of the other focus settings can be found) but I was mistaken. The picture quality is amazing - I managed to get one really brilliant shot of a bird on the bird feeder. It was only once I transferred the picture to my phone that I was able to zoom in on the picture and see that I had caught the bird with a tiny seed in its beak. Zoomed right in on the picture, the clarity and the colour was still brilliant. Things that I don't like about the camera are: 1) The shutter button feels like it is in the wrong place, set too far back on the camera. I found this a bit uncomfortable. 2) The zoom is manual only - I am not sure if all DSLRs are like that, but I had expected to have a switch of some sort to control the zoom. 3) It does not have near field communication and so connecting to my mobile phone is more long-winded than it should be.

K70 a very special camera
Excellent camera. HDR setting is incredible. Great value. As an upgrade from my old canon 400 I couldn’t ask for more. Now to spend time learning what it can do

Quality of build, water resistance and -10 degrees operating
I have had this camera for two years now after buying with the 18-55 lens and a whole load of kit for under £500 during the Covid-19 lockdown. I have since bought the amazing 18-135mm lens, and this, with an independent ever-ready case, is now my go-to kit. Yes, it is a bit heavy by modern (but not by 1970s) standards (due to the pentaprism and glass in the 18-135 zoom), but for mountains and freezing conditions it is hard to beat, even at just over £1000. It takes brilliant photographs, even on 'Auto' and has Aperture/Shutter/Both/ASA sensitivity priority exposure modes, which are all very useful, but perhaps the best is Manual with the use of the two mini dials at your index finger and thumb tips for Aperture and Speed, with under/over exposure shown in the viewfinder (not recommended with numb fingers at altitude). I understand the quality control on the shutter/mirror mechanism is at a level above the equivalent Canon/Nikon offerings at this price point, and it will last for many tens of thousands of exposures. Low light working feels like it is full-frame, and I hardly ever need to use flash. It really is a case of 'If I can see it, the K70 can'. I have had and used a lot of cameras in my life - Kodak Retinette, Praktica Nova B, Canon AE1, Nikon F2, Mamiya Press (all film), Kodak digital, Several Panasonic Lumixes, Nokia and Galaxy phone cameras, and they all have their place. The K70 is the best of all of them; I also use it with really good lenses wide aperture bokeh monsters I have from the 1960s and 1970s, and it has backwards compatibility with K-mount lenses and also m42 and Leica screw mount lenses with an adaptor. I have a Pentax macro bellows and slide copier that I use with it (through a 70s Zeiss Tessar 50mm). It works on my Swift Geological Microscope, with spectacular colour rendition, and on my telescope using an equatorial mount for long exposures. (There is an expensive Pentax electronic gadget for taking wide field sky at night shots - but I haven't tried this). The biggest hurdle any user has is the learning process - I accidentally knocked the K70 into multiple exposures during a wedding, and took 10 mins to find out what I had done. On the plus side the K70 very usefully has a green 'reset' button if you get way off track with your exposures and settings. Image stabilisation is on the camera, so old lenses benefit from this. All in all a good enthusiast's camera - but always carry a spare battery - you will take many photographs.

Pentax, grande marchio

Cosigliabile
