CPN RCD Spur 13amp 30ma Fused Protection Unit Trip Switch

I have to say I was slightly apprehensive about buying this RCD unit, it was needed for a power shower. All the others were much more expensive but given the reviews I thought i would give it a go.The terminals are well placed in the back of the unit and it even has flex outlet blank that can be removed if your using flex to feed whatever. The terminals are large and easy to get the cables secured.In and out are well labelled as are Live Neutral Earth.Ok you should be aware that any unit like this should be tested before being used to verify its disconnection time. This is done 3 times once at half the trip current, then at full trip current 30mA on two different half cycles. Here the unit should disconnect in less than 200mS. For this test Im using a Fluke multi-tester. The results? Well on the first half cycle the unit disconnected in 28mS, on the second 8mS - so very fast which is comforting. Don't forget to get yours tested!

Not a complaint - just an observation for other buyers to be aware. Perhaps all RCDs like this are the same. I already had a deep back box fitted where I wanted it go, so the depth wasn't going to be a problem, but the gubbins at the back of the RCD is so large that it just about fits length and height ways at the front of the back box. I ended up having to hack out my old back because it was of the type where it can be mounted anyway up, and so has (had) 4 screw holes - 1 left, 1 right, 1 top, 1 bottom. The top and bottom ones were stopping it from going in. Even after I prised them off, because the left screw hole was of the type where it has some up and down travel, it was still preventing the RCD from going in. I had to fit a back box that had no extraneous metal work. After that it's fine and does the job.

This spur is a good fit to my existing wall box in plasterboard. Seems well made and trips if you press teh button. It is not switched but you could take teh fuse out or just trip it to switch off teh current as required.

I have now bought 3 of these for bathroom installations and all work fine and look neat. Very white casing. They are easy to fit, the only thing to be aware of is that they need the full height of a standard patress, so if you have the metal type with screw flaps top and bottom you will need to bend these flat to get the unit it. Once done it fits snuggly.

I needed a fused RCD to protect an underfoor heating system. Th electrician had failed to provide one as required by the manufacturer. This device fits a standard back box, is neat and unobtrusive and works a treat. It is also the best value device that I have come across. No on/off switch but the buttons perform the same function.

Clean lines and easily fitted does exactly what you expect it to, suited my requirements But I am a electrical engineer (retired). Promped service god E/Bayer.
