Modified sine, also waveform varies with load. This inverters works well, much better than a certain high street store variety, and it's smaller too.

Can I use this as part of a solar power (160w) system in my shed?

If you mean from your batteries then Yes def that's what I do. I've run cables from my shed and have this in my conservatory. I also have a1000w inverter in the shed. I've got 2x 100w panels and 4x 100ah batteries. This item is fantastic and it doesn't need to be on to use the USB ports it just takes the 12v from the batteries and converts to 5v USB. Hope this helps.

Is the fan quite thanks

The fan is pretty loud. It is a good unit but it os far from silent. I use it in my shed on a solar system and you can hear it from quite far away.

Can I usethis directly from solar panel via dc to dc converter to inverter?

Don’t think you’d have enough continuous power to power any useful 240 appliance. Works perfectly well from a 12 V battery I keep an old car battery in there and run it from that.
