Review: Great toy for very little money - This is such a simple idea but so much fun can be had. i bought it for my 2 year old son, and I think that it is a great toy for children from about 1 to 4 years old (I think by 5 they will have got all they can out of it). My son isn't so interested in sorting and stacking, although he does do it a little. When I gave it to him a few days ago he couldn't thread yet - but he has learnt how to in no time, and has also learnt 'through the middle'and 'pull it through'- which are completely new concepts to him. So within a few days he has made a dramatic step forward in terms of manual dexterity, and learnt some new words/concepts. Great. He doesn't want to play with it all the time - but it is something that I can resort to on a rainy day. I bought it because of the rave reviews and the price, and i am very happy - good simple fun. They seem large. Are they not sort of normal cotton reel size?** A: The cotton reels are smaller than normal cotton reels but are safe for little fingers and mouths but you don't get many reels, so if another child wants to do some there is a fight as to who can get the most in their corner **Q: How many reels are their in a box?** A: There 5 of each colour thunk there was about 20 in box **Q: Are the laces white?** A: yes , whitish **Q: how many laces does the box contain?** A: Just the 1 lace. It is more a thin sized rope that a lace. The reels are great. In addition to lacing, the reels can be used for colour sorting, stacking, making stamps on play dough and all sorts of other activities. I bought this for a 18 months old, he doesn't have any issue with putting the lace in one end of the eel, but because it is a bit long, he doesn't understand yet that he has to push a little further so the lace comes on the other side. I'd say that for a young child, you might want to find a lacing toy with smaller beads.
