Hi Its not for soundproofing You need a different productAcoustic foam is for sound absorption in a recording or listening environment , it is not for soundproofing It may do a little to help but we never state our foam for this.Its a big misconception that acoustic foam is for soundproofing and many sellers NOT US do state this which is very misleading.Acoustic foams primary use is to lower mainly high frequencies and echoes within a room. if a brick wall cannot stop vibration or lower frequencies traveling a piece of foam has no chance.If used for its intended purpose it does work well.Hope this clarifies thingsRegardsMike

Can the foam squares be covered by fabric (e.g. calico) so they are not so dark in the room?

Yes you can cover the tiles, the more open the weave the better as acoustic foam works by its air permeability. Make sure you can easily breathe through the fabric, or look for a fabric that is listed as acoustically transparent. A cotton calico should be OK as long as it doesn't have any coating or a very tight weave.Another common option is to make acoustic wall panels, a thick wooden picture frame with the foam tiles sat inside then covered in a breathable fabric.

Question 3

I'm planning to build my own microphone isolation booth, main reason being my voice not to be heard by the neighbours. Would these tiles isolate it?

Accepted Answer

While they should be ideal for a booth I am not sure how much low frequency sound they would absorb.  Only mass stops Bass they say.  If the booth is well constructed using correct material for the walls then these to line the walls it should be good.  At this price I wouldn't expect a miracle but for what they cost you may as well buy a few and give them go.

Question 4

I have a detached double garage that I want to practice drums in. I'd like it as quiet as poss outside. Is this the right product?

No they are for acoustic fine tuning and will not stop noise escaping from your garage, especially something as loud as drums. You need proper sound proofing which, unfortunately can be very expensive.
