Superb for skin, superb cleansing
I usually keep a bar of this by the bath because we have dermatitis, eczema and psoriasis. We really do find that this soap is the best out there for calming skin conditions without drying the skin.I put a bar of this at the sink for hand washing last week. Everyone's hands were starting to suffer from constant hand washing, even using the gentlest liquid soap. Both mine and my daughters were red raw and cracking. This soap is amazing for hand washing, it's reversed the effects of the liquid soap and they're no longer anywhere near as dry. No moisturiser needed (I am not a fan of using hand moisturiser when I'm busy) - I'm not entirely sure that the sticky layer of a moisturiser is a good idea with current hand washing requirements in any case.We also realised just how much better the lather is; it's dense and rich, and it really cleanses the hands thoroughly. You just don't get the same thick cleansing lather from liquid soap. And of course, it smells amazing.I knew it was amongst my favourite bar soaps for a good reason!

Distinctive scent that I love
Love this soap, it has that distinctive scent that takes me back to childhood and been at grandmaโs.My nana always used this soap and if Iโm honest I wasnโt fan of scent as child but as got older itโs a scent that awakens lots of memories. The soap is also just great quality soap that has antibacterial qualities. The traditional look and smell always makes me think of clean and sterile.I used with all my children when young, great for washing hands after getting muddy and scratched after play in garden and my children now use with their children. Not as easy to get old of as used to be ,find not as popular so great can buy and have delivered to door. Its a small piece of tradition thatโs works as good today as ever did.The formula stood test of time as is a soap that hygienically cleans without dry skin and has distinctive scent.Sometimes old traditional products are best .

Soap is good
Bought this soap to see if it would help me with my scalp condition. I was researching online and it says antibacterial soap can help. So far it feels good. The smell is strong and smells medicated. I like it and it feels nice and clean to me. My kids donโt like the smell. It does a really good lather, so all in all a good wash. Your hair can feel a bit dry from it, so I put loads of conditioner on after and it seems to work. It to early to see if it works for my scalp condition, but will keep using it and see.

Beware the Old Wives Tales.
I bought this as I have a neighbours cat causing me problems by using my garden as a litter tray. Although this product is exactly as it should be, I heard an Old Wives Tale that cats can't stand the smell of it. So I bought some, grated it up and distributed it around my hyacinths. It turns out that the cat loves the smell and would probably wash with it if it had the opportunity. Cat deposits have shot up 20% whilst trying this, my kitchen smell of coal tar soap, and my cheese on toast has tasted of it since as its a nightmare to get off of the grater completely. Although this product is great (pardon the pun), I must knock one star off as it didn't work for my purposes. Onto the next Old Wives Tale.

Nostalgia in a bar of soap...
I've been using this soap since I was a kid, the scent of it used to make me want to wash my hands just to get the smell on me. It's antibacterial properties were then, not known to me at the time, but over the years, and longterm use of it, I can definitely see the advantages. I have skin problems, namely eczema, which flares up every now and then. When this happens I use this soap and the inflammation and itching is greatly relieved. My son also is plagued with the same condition, only more seriously. His doctor has prescribed a coal tar emulsion, so there is definitive evidence to the benefits of using coal tar. Now I know that this soap only contains essence of coal tar nowadays, thanks to the health and safety Muppets, but for me it works, and my son is also a fan.

Traditional bath and toilet soap.
An older guy's favourite and my standard soap. No sweet smelling scents, simply a background of regular coal-tar to leave one cleansed and "purified". A gentle and good foaming product.

Strange scent
Only had the bar of soap a few days so cannot comment on the longevity however it has a strange scent/smell. It's very strong and lingers so I've dried the bar out and popped it back in the packaging. It lathers up well but as with all soaps needs to be rinsed off through.I had to wash again with regular shower gel as the smell was super strong. The smell is not too disimilar to Sandalwood but a bit 'dusty'The soap smells like your local museum basically old and musty.Don't know if I'll use it again or just lather it up and use it to scrub the patio clean. Atleast it will keep the wildlife away

Love the soap. Hate the smell.
Bought because I heard it is the closest thing to traditional soap. My professor recommended it. They don't use actual coal tar anymore (dangerous and can't be regulated so this is the closest thing). Works great for sensitive skin. Be warned though, it smells like a dentist office punched you in the nose.

Smells like coal tar... waiting for it to work
Good soap, although I purchased it with hopes the the coal tar content would help with some psoriasis. So far I haven't seen any substantial change, but it's only been a few weeks.
