In this sequel to 'Dracula' (1958), four English tourists are holidaying in the Carpathians when they meet the unconventional Father Sandor (Andrew Keir) at an inn. He warns them to avoid the local castle if they value their lives, but the next day the quartet find themselves stranded in the mountains after their driver abandons them. When a driverless carriage arrives they board it, intending to travel to the nearest village. However, the carriage instead takes them to the very castle which Sandor warned them against, where they are welcomed by Klove (Philip Latham), sinister manservant of Count Dracula (Christopher Lee)... Lee is a Magnificent Prince
Prince of Darkness was the 2nd outing for Chris Lee's Dracula, & a very good entry it is. Hammer films are the 'dog's' when it comes to these wonderful classic tales, &, like those fantastic Universal horrors of the 30's & 40's, when given a chance to put their own spin on the classic stories, do very well. It has a stella cast & all actors give it their best. This film will please all Hammer & horror fans the world over, it is such a good looking film. The Bluray transfer is excellent, & this is hardly surprising, as the fantastic Studiocanal has done the job with the care & attention one expects from these true Professionals. Truely a beautiful job. If you were unlucky enough to purchase the lousy looking (dare I say it, Lionsgate version - I dared) Hammer's 'Curse Of Frankenstein' & are more than a little concerned about handing over you're hard earned dosh for another Hammer Bluray title, I assure you friend, you will not be disappointed here. This is a very good looking Bluray. The colours are beautiful & vibrant.

For Us There Will Be No Tomorrow
This is my favourite Dracula movie. In the build up to the Count's appearance Barbara Shelly gives a superb performance as a woman absolutely terrified out of her wits by an evil that no one else seems to feel. When told by her insensitive husband that things will look different tomorrow she replies to the effect that, "For us there will be no tomorrow". Christopher Lee plays a Dracula without speech. He hisses and creates a staring monster that comes across as both evil and totally alien. There is non of the smooth talk of the traditional Dracula here. The scene where Dracula is brought back to life by the shedding of blood over his ashes, and rises from the swirling mist in his sarcophagus is truly memorable. In the first half of the movie the party of two travelling couples, who will take no advice, are warned not to go to Carlsbad, insist on going and are warned that they must start early and be there well before nightfall. They are also told that there is no castle, but insist there's one on the map, and of course end up being thrown off their coach as night falls, close to the castle gates, by a terrified coachman. They allow themselves to be taken into the castle and events take their inevitable course. The tension tends to be lost a little in the later parts of the movie, but it's still one of Hammer's best efforts and well worth watching.

ANOTHER HAMMER HORROR THAT WORKS BETTER ON BLU RAY
The story starts with the final scene of the 1958 original, where Count Dracula is transformed into ashes. Christopher Lee reprises his role as Count Dracula once again, as two couples travelling through Eastern Europe, find themselves stranded by the side of the road, after their coach driver dumps them, and drives off. In the distance they spot a castle, a driverless carriage appears, and after getting in, it proceeds to take them to the castle. After arriving they are met by the mysterious Klove, a servant of the castle. This is the direct sequel to Dracula, which was Hammer's first outing with the Dracula films, also starring Peter Cushing. This genre would go on untill the 70's, which Hammer would become world famous for. For anyone who grew up with these films in the 60's, this one is a must buy. Or for anyone who hasn't yet watched a 'Hammer Horror', and hasn't seen any of the old style of horror films, then watch this. Hammer only made a few films in the CinemaScope format, and this is one of them. The film has been transferred in it's original aspect ratio of 2.35:1. Colours are natural, and this blu ray looks good. The sound is in 2.0 Final word: Before buying this, I already owned this film on dvd, and I can say that this blu ray release has far better Picture Quality than the dvd. Recommended, especially if you are a fan of Hammer Horrors.

A HAMMER CLASSIC FINALLY COMES TO BLU-RAY
This Hammer classic DRACULA PRINCE OF DARKNESS was already released on blu-ray and DVD combo in the U.K. earlier this year which i bought from amazon uk cause i had no idea if this film would get a U.S. blu-ray release until this week actually. any Hammer fan of this film knows the plot of the film so this review is about the different blu-ray releases even thou i had the U.K. release i bought this U.S. blu-ray by Exclusive media group from amazon.com a few days ago and there is a big difference in picture and audio quality between the U.K. and this U.S. release the picture is much brighter, colourful and crisp in the U.S. release while the U.K. release is slightly different which is PAL format the Audio quality is very Good High Definition in this U.S. blu-ray picture is in Widescreen of course, really Good widescreen transfer but it's matter of opinion really. the DVD from the U.K. combo is the same as the region 2 PAL version released years ago which i didn't care about cause i wanted blu-ray version both versions are the same runtime but different format of course so it's matter of opinion what you like I do prefer the U.S. picture and audio quality i think Exclusive media group did a Great Job, really made effort to restore the picture and audio quality no Doubt about it. now to the special features, the special features/extras are exactly the same as the U.K. blu-ray/DVD combo the Audio commentary by Chris lee and other Actors is nothing new it is the same commentary from the U.S. Anchor bay release from 1998 the behind the scenes footage, World of Hammer episode, Trailer etc are all from the Anchor bay release. but there is a brand new 30mins Documentary probably recorded last year called BACK TO BLACK excellent Documentary actually there is interviews with only 2 of the actors from the film Francis matthews and Barbara shelley who look close to 90 years old now they both talked about the film so it was interesting to watch Christopher lee of course is not interviewed, maybe he declined to be interviewed for this film it's anybody's guess what the reason was but there are interviews with other crew from the film and also Hammer biographers etc. the Anchor bay version was released about 14 years ago now so i think it's definitely time for an upgrade and get this new Blu-ray release of the film the picture and audio quality has definitely been enhanced and restored with Today's technology big difference compared to the Anchor bay release which is just a collectable now plus all the extras from the anchor bay release and this new Doco BACK TO BLACK are on this blu-ray so definitely worth the money to get this blu-ray, time for an Upgrade for sure.
