Any reason why this only works with the inverted method?

The Disc will work with the traditional method, however we believe it works best when used inverted. The Disc is made of mesh and is therefore more porous than paper, because of this water passes through quicker. By using the AeroPress inverted you can better control your brewing time. Also, Inverted is widely accepted as the best way to use the AeroPress to get great tasting coffee. In the 2015 World AeroPress Championship finals all finalists used the Inverted Method!-The Koffi Guys

What is the inverted method?

The Inverted Method is basically a fancy way of saying 'turn the AeroPress upside down'. This allows for a longer, more controlled brew time and means an end to leaking.1. Place the plunger face up on the counter. Now turn the brewing chamber upside down and place it securely onto the plunger. You will want the stopper to rest around the #4 position.2. Add the ground coffee. Your grind should be between espresso and drip.3. Pour enough water to submerge the coffee. Stir so no grounds are left dry. Wait 20 seconds.4. Fill the Aeropress with your remaining water stopping a little bit from the top. Stir again. Wait 30 seconds - 1 minute.5. Attach your mesh filter to the AeroPress.6. Flip. Careful. You may find it easier to put your mug on top of the AeroPress and flip with it in place.7. Plunge. Your plunge should last about 20 seconds8. Enjoy. Delicious, full flavoured coffee.The Koffi Guys

Should the disc be loose in the aeropress cap? other review mention a tight fit but mine has 1mm clearence and falls out if you invert the end cap?

its a good enough fit to prevent leaks but not so tight that its not usable. Any tighter and 1. it would be too hard to screw on the cap and 2. it wouldn't come out. Using this for the inverted method just takes one or two goes of practice, and that sets you up for a lifetime of aeropress use.

Aeropress microfilters are 6.3 cms round so this metal koffi filter is 6.2 cms round had no problem's uptil now with it
