Review: Ice cream book - Grt recipes Review: No Pretty pictures!! - I bought this book for my Grandad who will be getting an ice cream machine for Christmas and it is really nice, the only draw back for me is it isnt illustrated with pictures/phots. Although the content and receipies are pretty good, especially the unusual ones in there like sweet pototo ice cream! Also if you are buying this bear in mind it is an American book so they do use different measurements (cups) something id wish Id realised as now Ive to buy the correct measuring 'bits' to go with it! All this aside though it is a great book for the receipes and the ease in which it is written, real no nonsense way!

A must have
This most all encompassing ice cream recipe book ever written. Fascinating and easy to follow. Looking forward to trying out not just the ice-cream receipes, but sorbets granitas and toppings too.

The very best ice cream and no hassle - yet.
A really good book. The recipes are easy and delicious and the variety is astonishing and very imaginative. I have had the book only a short while but I've made several types already. Being an American book I've noticed that there is a leaning toward too much sugar; for my taste, anyway. I always use a little less with no adverse effects thus far. The yield is generous for those made as of now so I always work quickly when freezing as I have the churn attachment for my Kitchenaid mixer and I find that it begins to defrost quite quickly but, having said that, it isn't a problem as long as one is aware of the need to be organised. I highly recommend this book. Scrumptious ice cream, straighforward and fun. Delivers bigly!

US measures.
Good recipes, unfortunately ingredient measurement units are US. Cups, heaped quarts, etc.. Returned rather than experiment.

Delicious!
This book is magical! I tried several recipes and all were so tasty and different. The pine nut ice cream is wonderful. I tried the cannoli recipe and it got excellent reviews. All the recipes you need to set up an "ice cream feast". The granita recipes are a bit on the sweet side for my taste, but you can always add less sugar. Really worth having, my family keeps asking for new experiments. I am really so happy I bought this book! There are no pictures, but they are not so important for ice cream, I think. Anyways, buy this book, if you like ice cream, you won't regret it.

slight confusion of ingrediants
I have purchased this book and looking though it I am pleased, but some of the ice creams have an ingredient called half and half, after reading the first pages about the general stuff I still cant find out what this is !

The Ultimate!
This is a fantastic book with a full range of recipes from simple to complicated, with several possible variations on each one. There have been a couple of recipes that didn’t work so well or that I didn’t think were worth the trouble to make, but most have been straightforward and easy to follow. My copy has been dog-eared and marked up with my notes and suggestions for future batches. If I could keep only one cookbook, this would be it. Well, maybe after my old Better Homes & Gardens. Don’t believe the reviewers who trashed this book… it is well worth your time and money. Addendum: Well, isn’t that funny. I just finished making the batter for Butter Pecan ice cream from this book. The instructions didn’t make sense to me but I followed them exactly. What happened was exactly as described by another reviewer… the sugar turned into a hard lump when adding the half and half mixture. I was able to get the lumps melted and salvaged the recipe, but it tastes a bit like burnt sugar, or a Slo-Poke candy. I believe the author meant to add the half and half with the sugar, so this was definitely a mistake. Overall, though, I still think this is a great cookbook, I just need to listen to my instincts.

Not all ingredients are easy to source
Some of the ingredients are hard to get in Australia. For example, a few recipes called for orange juice concentrate. It' s not a common ingredient here. I was hoping for some more inspiring recipes. For a basic ice cream making book, it does the job.
