Up to now I’ve only had time to swatch these, wet and dry and also sketch a small quick tree. They’re a very interesting set of pencils and I’m hoping to get some time to do a full drawing with them soon. Lovely muted tones that should produce really atmospheric results.

Supplied in a blister pack and impeccably packed for safe transit, these elegant pencils come already sharpened to a reasonable point given the thickness of the cores. The rounded barrel is in a metallic shade of grey for the main part with a silver coloured flash and the end-tip is a similar shade to the core, to aid selection. I am so happy I decided to buy those! I struggle with coloured pecnils in general as I am rarely happy with the finish I get and the colours are too garish - but those can spread just like paint and the slightly muted colours are very beautiful and unique. They are perfect for using with watercolours, or just by themselves, and they look great when used dry or when wet (which makes the colour much more vivid) . The set of 12 has a really good selection of shades, although I slithtly regret not buying the larger box to get all the colours, as I love them and use them a lot.

I suppose they are not created to last forever, but one thing to be noted is that a few of the colors will fade dramatically over time if exposed to enough light. The pencils handle well and feel somewhere between graphite and a softer pencil, but harder than Derwent's colorsoft line (which are also very nice). The colors here are very saturated and earthy, almost none of the colors clash together because of this. Great for designing, which is what I use them for, but if you plan on displaying your work check Derwent's website for light-fastness ratings.

I've read that there are lightfastness issues with these, and that all the colour will fade away on any drawings after a few months, but all the drawings I've done with them are only a week or two old so I've not hit that issue yet. They are very good to draw with - like softer graphite pencils around 2B-4B, and putting water on the drawing after - I use a waterbrush but any small brush will do - transforms it like magic as the colours come alive. I wouldn't use it for drawings I want to last for more than a few months because of the potential to fade, but these are really nice to draw and practice with, and they're a lot of fun to play around with.

A very novel product from Derwent. First, the quality is perfect as usual from artist grade Derwent products, pencils have a nice weight and design, cores are in tact, hold a good point, centered, and presented in a functional tin. The cores themselves are very versatile, so far I've used them instead of my usual 2b to create some lightly tinted sketches. I've played them down thicker and washed over them with water to make some pleasing effects and tones in paper, finally I've found them to be very nice additions to my ranges of colored pencils, as they can be used as low light high saturated darks which are hard to find, or low saturated lights which are also hard to find. Quite unique, enjoyable to use, recommended medium for any artists collection.

I truly love these. They have 2 color sets. After using this one for 10 minutes, I ordered the second set as well. I love the uniques colors that these have compared to all the other water color pencils I have. They are wonderful quality. A was recommended a pricey pencil sharpener a few years ago. I imagine it makes a big difference on how little waste there is when sharpening. They sharpen well, go on smooth without leaving streaks that I end up nearly destroying the paper to get rid of. They have a proper size thickness that is not all wood. Lots of tinted graphite in each pencil.

ottime e colori molto belli, prevalentemente inglesi però, quindi pochi i toni caldi e mancano i gialli del tutto; qualunque disegno diventa invernale, luci nordiche. si usano come matite (e prevale la grafite) e trattando poi con un pennello umido emergono i colori (che si trattano come acquarelli); si possono usare umide ma perdono il tratto fine. La scatola veniva da Uk e è arrivata chiusa con lo scotch e con un paio di ammaccature della latta, ma le matite erano perfette nella imbustatura interna. Si fa la punta con un buon appuntalapis e non si rompe il legno. Molto consigliate a chi ama soprattutto il disegno (non sostituiscono gli acquarelli veri e propri), poco adatte a colorare gli albi antistress secondo me.
