Nice smart tin of colouring pencils. My daughter is a keen artist and likes quality brands and materials. She requested these specifically and they blend nicely with great colours.

If you remember these are budget pencils they are fine. Colours are reasonably bright and they blend and layer reasonably well. The problem is in the overall quality. Some of the leads are slightly off centre so can break easily when sharpened and some of the pencils aren't straight which can also lead to breaks The embossed writing on the pencil comes off really quickly so it can be difficult if you want to know the colour names. Overall though I think these pencils offer excellent value for money, just don't expect to be getting anything like polychromos or prisma quality.

The price being quite low I was surprised by the quality they lay down on paper very well didn't need to add a lot of pressure colours are rich and I loved the set as colours ar slitely more natural than in most of the coloured pencil sets. Loved the product, definatly worth the price

These are are good colourful and very useful. I am 70 and I use these as well as watercolour to bring life to my pen and ink drawings. The form I am filling in wanted me to star rate their softness. I could not see how to rate them. They are neither soft nor hard and are what I have expected pencils to be all my life this not too hard or soft and colourful.

I have always used this make of colouring pencil but these ones must have been dropped because every time I try to sharpen them the leads are constantly breaking. Not happy considering the price of them!

**I contacted Derwent and explained the issues outline below. They replaced the specific colours I was having issues with and, though not professional quality (obviously), I have a set of consistent pencils that are actually useful and worth the money. Thank you Derwent for the excellent customer service!** Having used and enjoyed Derwent grahite pencils for some time, I had enough confidence in the brand buy this set of coloured pencils. OK, I knew they were the 'academy' ones, and that they wouldn't be as good as the more professional choice. However, the quality of some of the pencils renders the set virtually useless for more than just basic 'colouring in'. Firstly, the colours of some pencils are questionable - the 'deep red' is not significantly different from the 'red', the 'light blue' is a good deal darker than the 'blue' the 'lime green' and 'acid yellow' are pretty similar and the black is nothing more than a dark gray. Secondly is how the pencils lay down pigment. With some of the pencils they hardly lay down any colour at all. with the purple pencil you feel like you're tearing through the paper just to get some colour on the page. same with 'rose'and blue. Finally, they don't blend all that well. Some colours do, but a lot simply do not. Same thing with burnishing. Having used more expensive pencils in the past, I'd recommend that you don't cut corners, and just go straight to professional grade pencils. You'll have a lot more fun, create more vibrant art, and be a whole lot less frustrated in the process. This purchase feels a lot like £15 wasted.
