Great for recapturing
Thank you thank you thank you. This product was a life saver! One of my beloved rats has some trauma issues and can't be handled at all. Of course she was the one who escaped whilst I was deep cleaning her cage. I spent over ten hours trying to catch her the first night, meanwhile I spent the whole of the second day making countless DIY bucket and bin traps to absolutely no avail. Ordered this in desperation despite being low on funds right now and got it delivered asap. Only a few hours after setting it up (which only took me a couple of minutes to figure out, though the instructions could maybe be a bit clearer as I ended up barely using them to work it out) I had my rat back!! I loaded the the little ledge with a rice cracker covered in jam (not healthy but a desperate situation) and found her in it unharmed and completely safe. A little frightened and she had pooped everywhere but her physical safety was more important. When ordering, my main concern was about her tail getting stuck and degloved, since tails are longer than their bodies and could easily have still been sticking outside the trap when the door come down. However, although it shuts fast enough to trap the rat, it shuts very gently and if a rat did have their tail outside of the door I believe they should easily be able to pull it in after themselves without it being harmed. Of course I can't say for absolute certain so you will have to make the decision on that risk by yourself. For size reference, I have included a picture of my rat after being captured. My rat is a fully grown female and is on the small side. Most rats would not be so comfortable but I think, unless very very large, this trap should be big enough. Perfect size for a Syrian hamster or gerbil too. Though the platform doesn't need much of a push to spring the trap, and a mouse or dwarf hamster putting weight on it would work, animals this small could easily pick the food up and leave without disturbing the platform so I don't think it could be 100% guaranteed you'd catch them with this. Now all that's left is hours of cleaning up the room I completely overturned looking for her.
