Original Curling Custard, Natural Styling Gel, 8 oz

This gel is SO good--it's light, keeps my hair healthy looking, and because the ingredients are natural, I feel totally comfortable using it constantly. I use it every single time I wash my hair!

I buy this every month. It’s quite pricey but the quality is great. Leaves my hair moisturized and soft. I can go three days without added more gel and my hair doesn’t go stiff. Also leaves no white residue in my hair. Value for the many Pennies!

Wow, I purchased this item about 7 months ago and I am just now beginning to think about a repurchase (I still have approximately a quarter of a pot left). Kinky Curly Curling Custard is a great product if: you have curly, preferably thick hair. It is probably too heavy if you have looser waves. It coats the hair and helps curl formation last for dayyyys, like no other curl cream I have tried. Personally I require a small amount of gel over the top of this, because my hair is super frizzy/will lose its curl if I don't. People who don't lose their curl formation might be ok without gel. I also put a light leave in conditioner under it, the Kinky Curly Knot Today one does work reliably well but I also find it works fine with most things. This product has a fairly strong vanilla smell and is the consitency of, forgive me, snot. You need to make sure you distribute it evenly, I just rake it through wet hair, otherwise it can clump a bit. Personally it has never flaked on me. It does "stretch" the hair a bit, and takes forever to dry naturally, or even with a diffuser. But it's worth it.

This is a great product, but you need to try different application techniques before you find what works best for your hair. For me, I apply it with very wet hands right after Cantu Sea Butter Curl Activator - and scrunch it in. The smell is divine, and you need smaller amounts than you would need if you used a gel - so it lasts for a long time, which offsets the price. The only significant problem is that it can easily build into the "too much of a good thing" territory. So I suggest you apply repeatedly in small amounts till you get it just right. Do not be discouraged if it doesn't work the first time, the trick is all in finding the right amount for your hair type.

Very quick delivery by supplier . Love the smell of this product have used only 3 times but I'm finding flax seed gel works better . Maybe I need to use this with the knot today conditioner to get better results . But bit wary about ordering because it's so expensive. Going to try again but at the minute I've gone back to my homemade flaxseed gel will update if I get better results with different products. Review update I've found a way to make the custard work and if anyone else is not getting results with it try it it's called smashers technique. It really works as long as you only use about 2 pea size amounts. Achieved perfect spirals on type 2 hair that's last for 4 days. Look up the technique I promise you this is the best way to use kinky curly curling custard

I used this today, after it arrived yesterday. I shampoo my hair etc and used it on wet hair. It did curl, but it was sticky on the wet hair and my hands. About half an hour later I shampoo it out of my hair. It did curl, only a little, but it's a lot of effort for precious little result. Won't be buying it again and definitely don't recommend it. It's not for me and the result is poor. Also I did try combing through my hair slightly after using it, and it combed out the curls. So I had dripping wet, very little curls in my hair and sticky hair and hands. I didn't take pics because it looked so awful in my hair. I may try the remaining contents of the jar on a dummy head just to see if there's anything I could have/should have done differently. But in no hurry to try it on my own hair again.

I think this is more suitable for tight corkscrew curls. My curls are big and loose so it didn't really suit my hair. Smells a bit unusual but could of gotten used to that. The smell is quite sweet. I wasn't particularly fond of the smell but people did compliment me about the smell though so some people might like it. Might be a good thing it didn't suit my hair since I don't think I'd be able to afford it. It has a really watery consistency compared to other gels I've used. As I said before, I think this is more suitable for small tight curls around a 4A, 4B, 4C curls. Mine are around a 2C/3A curl. I like the way it has loads of natural products though.

Gave me a very good result with the first use itself. But it took a few weeks of experimenting to get good juicy healthy curls. I am live with his product. Will buy it again

Edit: Figured out my day 2 and 3 curls. I wet my hair with a spray bottle. Apply Curls Blueberry Bliss and scrunch, then apply a thin amount of gel with prayer hands and scrunch again. Love this gel. For reference I have low density, fine, wavy-curly hair. I am mixed with Italian and black and my hair frizz is extremely hard to tame. I live in Georgia with humidity and semi hard water. Now on to the review. I had been using the Kinky Curly shampoo and Knot Today leave-in for a couple of months and really liked the products, so decided to try out the gel. Turns out these are some of the best curls I have ever gotten. I washed with Come Clean, deep conditioned with Deva Curl Heaven in Hair, added Knot Today leave in and then applied the curling custard. The gel goes on smooth and left me with no wet frizz. It dried into a cast that was easy to break and left my hair soft and moisturized. The gel texture resembles flaxseed gel so it is somewhat wet and slippery which I think helps it blend into my hair better than any other gel I've used before (which includes Shea, Mixed Chicks, Curls Blueberry Bliss, Aussie, Garnier, Eco Styler). It just glided on. For this specific photo I actually washed my hair in the night, and wrapped it with a silk scarf while it was still half wet and could already feel the cast. In the morning I undid my wrap and shook the hair out to break the cast and voila! Big spiral curls. They we're so beautiful. I honestly wasn't expecting these results. In this pic I didn't style upside down (I did side ways) which is why my roots are not springy, but that was on purpose as I wanted to wear my hair half up half down with a relatively smooth top. In the end the curls lasted about 75% of the day, which is great. I was out and about at the park and my son tussles my hair a lot. Very satisfied. I haven't been able to figure out the next day curls yet, but I am super happy with the wash day results and am pretty sure I can figure out how to work this into 3 days without washing. This gel doesn't dry my curls.
