My son tells me that once melted, gallium will stain skin leaving a permanent "tatoo."  Is this true?

No, it does not stain your skin permanently. It does leave a grey color on your skin, but it washes right off. A word of warning though to a fellow parent; it’s a good idea to use a paper plate or trey under your hands as you play with it. Once it melts, it moves like water and can easily spill out of your hand, and be careful around carpet. If it falls on carpet as a liquid, you won’t be able to pick it up without a vacuum.
