I bought this in order to be able to race with my grandsons. The local Hobby Town USA store has a track made just for these cars and they hold competitions on Sundays. The car is competitive out of the box and is reasonably rugged, surviving all collisions we have encountered to-date while on the track. I have three grandsons, aged 9, 7, and 5. All of them can drive the cars while I handle the trimming of them. I have bought two more so all of them can drive at the same time.

It's a great car. The tires it comes with lose traction very easily on my floors so I had to purchase new stickier tires.
