It immediately picked up on the smoke and revved up the fan speed. We have prescribed burns in the area. It is so appreciated when in an area with such bad air quality. They went above and beyond. Can't hear the tv over the fan even though unit is a long way off in another room. It does not remove cooking odors. The light remains blue even with smoke, so the sensor doesn't seem to work.
