There is no pineapple juice in a Mai Tai!!!
The stuff is the secret to a real Mai Tai — and most bars get it wrong. Let’s settle something first: a real Mai Tai does not contain pineapple juice. The original recipe is rum, triple sec, fresh lime juice, and orgeat syrup — that’s it. The orgeat is what makes it, and this Monin almond syrup is the best I’ve found. Orgeat has a rich, slightly sweet almond flavor with a subtle floral note that you simply can’t fake with simple syrup or a cheap substitute. When you use real fresh-squeezed lime juice alongside a quality orgeat like this one, the difference is immediately obvious — balanced, complex, and nothing like the syrupy tourist-trap versions you get at most bars. The Real Mai Tai (Trader Vic’s Original): • 2 oz aged rum (a split of Jamaican and Martinique-style is traditional) • ¾ oz fresh lime juice — squeeze it yourself, no exceptions • ½ oz triple sec or orange curaçao • ½ oz Monin orgeat syrup • ¼ oz simple syrup (optional, adjust to taste) Combine all ingredients with crushed ice and shake well. Pour unstrained into a rocks glass. Garnish with a spent lime shell and a sprig of mint. Do not add pineapple juice. If you’ve only ever had a Mai Tai made with a mix or premade sour, this will genuinely surprise you. The Monin orgeat is consistent batch to batch, not too sweet, and a little goes a long way — the bottle lasts. Highly recommended for anyone serious about classic cocktails.

Perfect replacement for going out for lattes
I enjoy a nice latte daily. Since the pandemic I purchased an espresso machine and recreate my favorite drink at home. I miss my local shop but I purchase their beans then use the Monin Vanilla and Almond syrups to recreate my drink. I am very happy with the value, one bottle lasts me over a month. So my $5+ daily latte has gone down, I have not really figured the exact calculations, I am sure my husband could figure it out and would be interested. If you are looking for a great syrup that professional baristas and local shops use check these out. FYI some syrups come in glass bottles and some in plastic. Purchase the pumps too!

Tastes mildew-y!!
Never again! I bought this brand because I love their French Vanilla syrup for my coffee and had purchased almond syrup from another well known brand and it was fabulous. I thought Monin’s almond would like be amazing but was completely wrong. Either I got a bad bottle or they just don’t have their almond flavoring right. It almost tastes like mildew. Had my whole family try it too in case it was just me and everyone said the same thing - something tastes off with this! Sadly will be tossing the whole bottle - what a waste!

The BEST Monin flavor for at-home lattes
The best flavor for at home lattes with the Keurig. See my other review for the worst flavor (Cookie Butter). My only complaint is the $20 price tag when other flavors are $16-18. Monin Almond is sweet but not too sweet with rich almond flavor. I first discovered this on a Holland America cruise ship in the Grand Dutch Cafe and I’ve been obsessed ever since. So. Good. Do not use the ounce that is the recommended serving size though! Maybe a tablespoon at most. I’m on my second bottle.
