Garmin Index™ BPM, Smart Blood Pressure Monitor, FDA-Cleared Medical Device

I've used a Withings BPM for a year or so, and while it worked fine, I was always annoyed that i couldn't get the readings to sync automatically into Garmin Connect (and I spent way too much time trying various ways to make it work, unsuccessfully). But then my wife wanted to start using it. She likes to keep things put away where they belong, which means I can never find it when I want it. So, since i'm committed to the Garmin ecosystem (Index scale, Venu watch, Edge 530 for cycling), I decided I should just get this. I took readings almost every morning the month before my annual physical. Then i took my report along with the device itself with me to the appointment. At the office, the reading was the same as what they took, confirming its accuracy. The reading was a bit high (as it usually is at the appointment), so I pulled out my report for the last month showing that my BP is consistently within normal range. Really happy with the device. I'm a little disappointed that it doesn't have a rechargeable battery like the Withings. But it's not like you have to change the batteries very often... so really not a big deal.

Easy to use and fits nicely into the Garmin ecosystem. I take my pressure every morning, and it seems accurate, and I like that the data flows automatically into the Garmin Connect website to allow me to track trends over time. Battery life is great, and it works really well for me!

I REALLY wanted to like this product. I have a lot of Garmin products and have always had good results with them. I like the form factor, portability, and connection to Garmin Connect. However, it simply was not accurate for me. I took the unit to the hospital and compared its numbers to Dana Farber's, and the Garmin diastolic numbers ranged from 20 to 40 (!!) points high. I worked with Garmin support to make sure I was using it correctly, and they ultimately ended up sending me a replacement unit. Unfortunately, I had exactly the same results with the replacement. Because of Garmin's high bar in requirements for the return, I was outside of the return window by the time I was able to definitively conclude that the second one wasn't working for me either, but fortunately Amazon was still willing to take the return. I'm a big Garmin fan. My (unsupported) opinion on this is that for some reason (arm shape? body type?) it works for some people, and doesn't work for others. I strongly recommend that if you get one you take it to the doctor's office and compare readings to their device. Garmin will require pictures of the readings on the device being compared against, the readings on their device, and of you wearing it, so if they don't match it will shorten your exchange window to take them then (if you try exchanging rather than just returning)! If the numbers do match, then great, if mine did I would rate 5 stars because I like everything about it except its ability to do its basic job. If they don't, based on my experience I'd return inside the window because it isn't a quality control problem.

Setup was quite easy if you already have a suite of Garmin devices and the app. I have small arms so the wrap is too long and quite unwieldy. The monitor face is kinda heavy so a little challenging to put on with one arm but it just takes some practice. It connects to wifi and Bluetooth but in my opinion wifi is unnecessary, Bluetooth should be sufficient to sync with your phone and would probably make the device lighter and cheaper. The feature I like the most (next to it syncing with your app) is the option to read either once or thrice. As a scientist, I need more than one data point. The feature I hate the most is that IT TAKES THE AVERAGE OF THE THREE READINGS. I need each data point because each top number is connected to the bottom number. You can't just average out all the top numbers and all the bottom numbers and call that average BP systolic/diastolic. Ugh. Anyway, other than that, it's a BP monitor that reads your BP and syncs to your phone app (Garmin). The app is really the selling point here. It shows you if your BP is elevated, stage 1 etc. I'm very cautious about my BP so it's a time saver (and quite literally life saver) to have it all synced in my app. You can also have multiple user profiles in the BP monitor. It's quite expensive (you can get regular BP Monitors for $30) but I think if you already are a Garmin user, that's where the benefit of this product lies.

been using this bp monitor for over a year now. it is a better product than their twitchy weight scale. the initial device wifi/user setup was not very intuitive, it is kinda a slow slog. once you get past that part it is smooth sailing. I really dig the one touch 3X reading setting, it is awesome for early morning readings when you are not very awake. I use the 3x reading setting as default. the automatic cloud data sync is highly underrated. with garmin connect you can print or create a bp reading spreadsheet exportable PDF with the automatically saved readings. I think if you are actively tracking your bp for any length of time there is no simpler setup. I had a couple of cheaper bp cloud readers before but this unit beats them all in that respect. as far as AA batteries use I am still on the first set of duracells I swapped in on setup instead of what was supplied. finally, I feel this reader gives acurate readings like most of them out there do nowadays. I think the ease of use and automatic daily tracking is where this unit shines.

The Garmin Index BPM allows for accurate blood pressure readings in about 30 seconds. To ensure the best reading possible, wait for the advised 5 minutes after attaching to your arm before starting the assemement. Connectivity presents no issues. Bluetooth is done through the Garmin Connect app. Wi-Fi connections only work on a 2.4GHz, so ensure you have that setting enabled on your router. The adjustable band allows for a large variety of arm sizes to fit. The device itself is small enough that it should fit well on even a smaller adult's bicep length. It comes with 4 AAA batteries preinstalled. The material seems to be a standard hardened plastic/polymer, so durability shouldn't be an issue. Avoid dropping it though, as the internal components may not be as sturdy as the exterior.

I needed to monitor my blood pressure and also to keep track of the dates and times. This BPM does it and there's a place to add notes. You can save the results as a PDF and send it to your PCM. Love this product.

Provides quick and easy to take blood pressure readings. I like being able to take a single reading or use the average of 3 readings taken 1 minute apart

Very pleased with this. Links with Garmin connect on my phone and I have the watch and scales. I use myfitnesspal and it links up too. Very pleased with it as it does 3 readings one minute apart and uses that

Easy to use. Great idea and I love Garmin. Had a watch for many years. But.... It's inaccurate. I took three readings. The high was 127, 133 and 146. Take your pick. At the same time my Braun device was consistent 129, 131. I tried again a few days later same huge variance on 3 readings. Braun remained consistent. Sadly I returned the item.

Doesn't check for AFIB. Doesn't sync to Garmin Connect as easily as watches do. Limited functionality compared to brands dedicated to manufacturing BP machines.
