Q: Going to boston in late may. avg temps are 67 (high) 49 (low). would this be appropriate for the temperatures?

It would be perfect for those conditions. I have three and wear these during Kansas’ Fall, Winter and Spring more than any type clothing I have. Good from 50s to low 70s.

Q: Does this pullover have pockets on the sides

I don't believe it has pockets but it is the nicest looking and fitting and wearing one that I have.

Q: How heavy is this compared with a sweatshirt? Is it more flimsy than that?

It's about the same weight as a sweatshirt. It's a thinner more breathable material that a cotton sweatshirt. It has a much more refined look and feel than a sweatshirt. I got one at a golf tournament and like it so much that I ordered 2 more in different colors. The dry tec doesn't ride up when you're making a golf swing like a sweatshirt does.
