What pods does this take? Or can this only take certain ones

It only takes Vertuo capsules. These are ONLY manufactured by Nespresso (the Starbucks ones are also made by Nespresso). There are NO compatible capsules available, nor will there be for several years.

I only have 32cm of counter depth to play with but the unit could hang 11cm over the edge at the back. Is the water compartment strong enough for that

Yes. My counter top is about that size, but I have to put a bit slender due to the tray for cup but usually I take it off because my cup can’t go in when I put the tray

why are these so cheap? are they genuine? the official vertuo machine is £150 on amazon

They are often cheap because they tie you in to the Vertuo pods - which differ from the smaller ones and can only be bought from Nespresso. You will spend much more on pods than the machine itself!
