Yes it is shower proof. Not sure about the shoulders part. Not really. The straps aren't that long and if you did you might look a bit daft.

Can i fit a book in the front pocket?

Do you put bag in freezer

I don't put it in the freezer but I do keep it in the fridge at work. It keeps food cold, and works really well.

Do you need freezer cool blocks to keep food cool?

I never did. However I did notice that food keeps at a good temperature, for only a couple of hours. You probably have to take outside weather into consideration. I think if you used cool blocks you would struggle as the bags are quite small, but again that depends on what you put in there. Hope this helps.
