Probuditi!: A Humorous Tale About Magic, Hypnosis, and a Little Sister Who Becomes a Dog for Kids (Ages 6-9) Review: LOVE this book---one of Chris van Allsburg's best - LOVE this book---one of Chris van Allsburg's best. The drawings, as always, are delightful and make you want to pause and enjoy the pencil work. It is a story about an arrogant brother and his subversive sister, who gets the last laugh on him. I am happy to report that the main characters in the book are a black family. But there is no racial problem herein, which is a nice break from mission-oriented tales, where someone is overcoming something and proving their worth etc. Nope, you've just got a pain the butt brother who gets outdone by his plucky sister and a Mama in the background keeping order. Review: Another good one - This book is a gift for my granddaughter. I'm a fan of Van Allsburg and have been hunting for his books to be able to create a library for her. Great story and wonderful illustrations!

Great book!
I absolutely love this story. Many of Chris Van Allsburg's books are magical but the realistic nature of this story makes it much more magical to me. Calvin and Trudy's relationship is portrayed very true to the complicated but loving dynamics of siblings and is one in which readers will most certainly relate to. The 1940s setting is a nice touch because it represents the perfect childhood neighborhood and again readers will be able to make connections to their own childhood shenanigans. This story could be used in the classroom for a variety of things, but I would focus on the development of the relationships between characters.

A hit
Fun little story, adorable pictures. My grandson likes the book, he laughs at it, asks questions and wants to have me read it again.

Nail biting finish!
Read it to know it ;). Mr Allsburg does it again and again and this one has a masterstroke. Both me and my son were almost duped by little sister and then on the last page ;)

How We Laughed!
My granddaughter (age 8 1/2) and I loved this book. As the two boys got deeper and deeper into the mess they created by trying to ignore the younger sister, it got harder to read for all the laughing. A good "moral of the story" book, and also a great example of the saying about he who laughs last...
