I replaced an old Onkyo 535 with this Denon. It was a significant upgrade. There is zero noise, the Bluetooth is easy to use and provides excellent sound, and the HDMI circuitry is outstanding. The eARC capability is compatible with 2.1 HDMI, and it works seamlessly. Of note, I really like the way it provides the best sound configuration automatically for each source, and I don't have to switch around to find the best sound option. For example, if the source is compatible with Atmos, it provides Atmos. If it's only compatible with Dolby surround, it switches to that. Finally, the distribution of sound is superb. I have a 7.1 speaker configuration of mostly mid-level speakers, and the Denon uses them to their fullest. Rear sounds come clearly from the rear...same with each side, etc. And most of all, I don't have to tweak the system to get that. I just used the provided microphone and ran the set up (which was really easy), and I have really great sound. This unit is a good value.

I had been excited for weeks anticipating upgrading to this receiver from Denon’s AVR-S570BT, but it was dysfunctional on arrival, repeatedly entering protection mode after operating for a few minutes and thereby being completely unusable. UPDATE: I decided to take a chance, purchasing a second unit after returning the first defective unit, and it works perfectly without issue so far. I’ve updated my rating accordingly, and am relatively forgiving of what may have been a matter of an issue slipping past quality control because I was refunded for my first purchase in full. I will update this review should my sentiment change.

For a number of reasons, I decided I needed a new AV Receiver. My primary motivation was to move from 5.1 to 7.1 and up. I wanted something that already had the established standards and would be 8k ready. To get all of that , I read the reviews and it came down to Denon or Onkyo (yes I know there are even pricier and more esoteric products). This one had ample 8k HDMI (2.1 connections), several optical / coax digital inputs, phono input, sub outs, on screen display, and speaker calibration (Audyssey mic included). It has discrete line level inputs but no composite video. Yes, it includes all the variations for Dolby (Vision, Atmos, etc), DTS (X, etc), DIRAC compatible, compatible audio streaming services, etc. Check out the specs at one of the online services. The setup was a breeze with TV/onscreen prompts for general setup as well a room / speaker tuning. The remote is ok, sleak and well laid out. I ran the tuning setup for my 5.1 and will add 2 more speakers and rerun in the next week I think the calibration process is easy enough, but be sure to follow the prompts on screen about where and how far away to place the testing/calibration mic. It does have a manual calibration/tuning process, so if you know what you want already, just jump to that menu section. I'll note that I had this in my cart for a week trying to decide to buy, and then 2 days before Amazon's big sale event it went on sale ($200 off), but on the event day (July 10-11) it went back up! Kinda disappointed in that. Luckily, I got it when it first went on sale. Bottom Line: Do you research - be sure if you really need all the bells and whistles and the associated price, and if you want to jump ahead a bit and get the current cutting edge standards. These things seem to change every few years. One thing to note, the unit does have an "eco" mode (not sure how that works exactly) but it runs Warm and produces a fair amount of heat overall.

I bought this receiver a couple months ago and finally got around to hooking it up to my new Polk speakers (Denon and Polk are both owned by Samsung) and it sounded fairly decent; not very much power but I guess the Polk R700 speakers I bought demand a lot of power. The receiver is in my bedroom and last night I put on a CD when I went to bed ~ 9 PM and fell asleep listening to music. At 1:30 in the morning all of a sudden it sounded like gunfire and cannons going off (my subwoofer just about shook the house down) so I ran over and turned off the receiver and went back to bed. A couple minutes later the receiver turned itself back on! and started the gunfire and cannon fire noises again - about every 3 seconds. The receiver wouldn't turn off so I finally ended up unplugging it. This morning I thought I'd try it again and today it won't even turn on - I've probably had this receiver on no more than ten hours - I head somewhere that Denon was a quality brand but their QA is obviously very poor.

There are lots of reviews out there discussing all the capability built into this receiver, so I won't repeat all that. I'll just say that I really like this thing. We just finished building our new, dedicated home theater, and I needed a decent 7.2.2 receiver to power 11 Klipsch speakers and route video to our Epson LS12000 projector. I've had a Denon receiver for years up in our family room, and it has been flawless. This Denon fit the bill and is less glitchy and more affordable than many other receivers out there, so we purchased one here on Amazon and haven't looked back. The theater has only been running for about two months, but the Denon is performing great, as expected. Set up was easy for our 7.2.2 speaker arrangement, the sound is crisp with more decibels than we'll ever need, and video switching has been flawless. The Android app for playing music on demand via phone command when tinkering elsewhere in the house is a handy feature. I'll update this review if anything changes, but at this point we could not be happier with this receiver. Highly recommended.

This is my second Denon receiver. I have found both to be good, but the X3800H seems to have a lot of little issues that Tech Support can't seem to resolve. I've solved some on my own, after hkurs upon hours, then some of the issues mysteriously reappear. Specifically, after the first setup, Audyssey won't recognize the mic, even when changing from TV Audio to some other input. The same thing occurs when trying to get Audyssey to display on the TV. Getting Zone 2 to play tv audio took many, many hours of playing around. Different Tech Support people offered a multitude of solutiions, but none worked. The setup gets complicated when there are 9 channels on Main and 2 on Zone 2, even with an external amp. The Denon manual has a few hundred pages if text, but it doesn't go into enough detail on many things. The go-to solution from each Tech is to do a factory reset. After an hour or two, the problems still aren't solved and I pick up the next day with a different tech who starts with a factory reset. Another issue involved the AVR muting the tv on startup. A factory reset did solve that problem. I have resolved most, but not all issues on my own. The receiver needs a well-tested firmware update.

Glad I went with the X3800H vs the lesser models - simply for the Audyssey MultEQ XT32 calibration with my 7.1.2 speaker setup. It did a great job of room correction, much better than my previous Sony. I might upgrade to Dirac some day, but for now I don't have a huge need to pay the additional $$ for the license; XT32 is good enough for me so far. And if I want to get some rear Atmos speakers later, I can add on a cheap 100w 2-channel amp through the receiver preout; as this receiver will run 11 channels but only has the built in amplifier for 9 channels. And this thing can carry up to 4 subwoofers - seems overkill as I'll probably never have that many but I could see myself running 2 subs some day. As for the rest of the receiver - great specs all around. Has all the current bells and whistles needed for a modern home theater experience. Power is good, and the sound quality is great. HDMI switching has no issues with the current firmware. The biggest seller for Denon to me though is the Dynamic Volume control - Youtube TV commercials & 'zen' moments blast your eardrums out if the receiver doesn't have that capability. It works great even on the Light setting.

Lovely product... Heat sink is getting hot after half an hour...thankfully not towards damage.... Extra fan is needed.......to maintain temperature...

Este receptor de Denon es para exigentes, tiene una gran variedad de opciones y debes experimentar con el para obtener el mejor sonido, en mi caso lo utilizo con bocinas Klipsch en los frontales principales y 2 subwoofers combinado con bocinas Bosé para el surround y canal central, el sonido y la potencia son excelentes, Audissey funciona muy bien y ya que está el sistema calibrado todavia tienes la opcion de modificar cualquier canal para adaptarlo especificamente a lo que estas viendo y escuchando, y todavía está la opción de Dirac! que aún no he probado, es un poco complicado de usar al principio pero despues es muy gratificante el resultado, ampliamente recomendable, pero cuidado no es un receptor para conectar y usar así como viene de fabrica.

Demon customer care is an amazing help. My 3800 had a BIOS problem after 2 years. Warranty is 3 years. They sent me a refurb, and that pooched out in about 5 minutes, so I'm now waiting for my second replacement. But the system itself is amazing, and the customer care is over the top helpful. I don't feel like I'm lesser than when I call them. They make me feel like a valued customer. Of course the system was a $2,000 purchase, so this little bit of Royal Treatment makes me highly recommend their warranty service. I love the 3800H. It's a beast. And I find myself wanting to add more speakers and more subwoofers to make the system rock the house. Takes a bit of help to set up, but always remember to plug in all your components before you turn this thing on. Never ever plug a speaker in while it's on. Any AI Will help you find speedy answers to some of the setup problems you will encounter. I bought this 2 years ago, and the price has not changed. That's how valuable this thing actually is. It's a high-end system, as opposed to a $500 basic amp. I just wanted to make sure that I had something that would last me my lifetime through speaker upgrades and additions. I highly recommend Denon, their warranty service, and the X3800H.
