Simplicity is the key to Dan's golf coaching. He has created a short game system that any golfer can apply with immediate results – breaking down how you can improve your short game by learning new techniques and increasing your golfing IQ. Combining better technique and a better way of thinking will improve your ability to perform on the golf course. Amateurs tend to have very little understanding of the short game when playing golf, specifically how it differs from the long game or how they can make better decisions. They have no plan. This book will give you a clear, simple system you can apply immediately and further enjoy your golf. 3 Releases: The Short Game System will give you the three key shots you need around a green. A low-running chip shot, a soft-landing spin shot, and the lob shot. You will learn the set-up and swing fundamentals to execute these shots. In addition to the greenside shots you will learn the art of bunker play and pitching, along with many other specialist shots to add to your repertoire. Dan has taught these shots to hundreds of Tour Professionals and his clients have won Major Championships, Tour Championships, and several European Order of Merit titles. As well as learning these exact techniques, proven at the highest level, you will acquire crucial performance skills. You will develop an understanding of the intricacies of assessing the lie, the art of practice and, fundamentally, how to learn so you can perform to the best of your ability. Illustrated with hundreds of photographs, including swing sequences and practice drills, 3 Releases is your ultimate short game guide. Dan Grieve is head golf professional at the internationally renowned Woburn Golf Club, home of the European Tour's British Masters for many years and 10-time venue for the Women's Open Championship. He taught me the short game which was the key ingredient to gaining my European Tour card”. Inci Mehmet, Tour Pro and Sky Sports Analyst. “ Dan’s Short Game System is revolutionary” Owen Hargreaves, Ex - England International Footballer. “ Dan is one of the best coaches in the world, this is your chance to enjoy his World-Class coaching.” Sir Clive Woodward “Dan taught me a completely new way to chip and pitch” Charley Hull “I have no doubt this book will lower your scores.” Jos Buttler, England Cricket Captain Review: An excellent purchase to help your short game - I have been following Dan on various social media platforms for some time now and saw some decent improvements but I have to say it was not until I purchased the book that I really saw the gains. It’s so well written and easy to follow and really starts to bring the whole system together. I recently broke 90 for the first time and i absolutely attribute the improvement to Dan and this book. Highly recommended! Review: Best golf book! - I’ve read countless golf books over the years, but Daniel Grieve’s “3 Releases” stands head and shoulders above the rest. From the very first chapter, it’s clear that Grieve not only understands the technical side of the golf swing but also knows how to communicate it in a way that actually makes sense to everyday players. What sets this book apart is how simple and actionable the concepts are. The “three releases” framework completely transformed how I think about the golf swing — it took something that always felt complicated and made it feel natural, fluid, and repeatable. After just a few practice sessions applying Grieve’s methods, I noticed a dramatic improvement in both consistency and ball flight. The writing is clear, the illustrations are spot on, and the advice feels like it’s coming from a trusted coach standing beside you on the range. Whether you’re a weekend golfer or a serious player looking to fine-tune your game, this book delivers real results. Simply put, this is the best golf book I’ve ever read. If you’re serious about improving your swing, 3 Releases is an absolute must-read

Best short game book by far
This is one of the best book for the short game. I’m a retired golfer and wish I’d read this as soon as it came out. It’s so easy to follow and Dan is one of the best coaches for explaining the different techniques and drills for each shot depending on the lie etc; Since I’ve read this last year my handicap has gone down by 4 shots and it’s the short game that have made that possible. I now enjoy the short shots whereas before I dreaded them. I would highly recommend this book to all golfers. Even the single handicappers could go back and double check their techniques easily before playing. Well worth the money too. AP

A Valuable Resource
As a PGA professional, I recently had the pleasure of diving into Dan Grieves' "3 Release Short Game System," and I must say, it's a thoroughly impressive and insightful piece of work. Grieves has a knack for simplifying the complexities of the short game, offering a clear and actionable framework built around his three distinct release patterns. What I particularly appreciated was the logical progression and the detailed explanations behind each technique. The book isn't just a collection of tips; it's a well-structured system that provides a solid understanding of how different release styles can be employed to achieve various shots around the green. More importantly for me as an instructor, "3 Release" is packed with golden nuggets that I've already begun to incorporate into my own teaching sessions. The clarity of the concepts and the practical drills outlined in the book provide an excellent foundation for helping my students develop a more versatile and effective short game. Whether you're a fellow professional looking for fresh perspectives or a dedicated golfer seeking to improve your scoring zone, Dan Grieves' "3 Release Short Game System" is a valuable resource that I highly recommend. It's a well-written, practical guide that delivers on its promise.

Transform your short game
Every golfer has experienced days when the short-game has not been at its sharpest, raising the tension back to the second shot, e.g. “If I miss this green, I will have to play a pitch/chip I cannot play at the moment” and so on. I am a twelve handicap who has been much lower so expect to play these “simple”shots. … but, before purchasing this book, could not. Hitting close to long par fours in two before taking four more mis-hits from thirty yards, is infuriating … but not any more. The writer’s opening anecdote is one we have all seen, i.e. a professional (in this case Seve Ballesteros RIP) dropping a challenging, likely-bogey pitch right next to the pin and holing the putt to save par or better. Golf is a game of confidence, even at the highest level. “Three Releases” helps to develop short-game thinking and offers ways to improve technique in an area in which many ideas have been proposed since the game began. Professionals practise for hours to hone their skills with every club; some are especially gifted and, the more they practise, the “luckier they get”. (Gary Player in bunkers). This was recommended to me by Adams Trewhella, assistant professional at Basingstoke Golf Club. He and the professional, Carl Crown, both excellent teachers, teach short game techniques. When he mentioned it to me, I thought “Just another book!’ but he convinced me to buy it. I am glad I did. After the first reading, I put it to the test on the course, all three releases and, while they were not perfect, they look and felt like golf shots, not thins, fats or stubs. It changed my thinking from “Where is this wedge going to go?” to careful analysis of my address (etc), landing spots, trajectory … all positive thoughts. Thank you, Adam. This is one of the best short-game books I have read and I have a shelf full. Daniel Grieve obviously understands the short game, its complexities and the issues it can cause for many players. Grieve provides positive ways to improve - thinking and techniques - to take some of the mystique out of the short-game by debunking many of the previous techniques. It is a modern perspective and careful analysis of shots around the green. However, each of the shots - address, take-away (useful left shoulder), wrist positions, extent of backswing, transition, contact and follow-through - will need to be practised. His understanding clearly comes from teaching and noting student’s swings and thinking. I purchased the KIndle Edition but may now buy the hard copy. The photography emphasises and clarifies the text very well, unlike some badly thought through and edited golf books. On the driving range on a wet day, where most players are exercising rather than practising, leaving the driver in the bag and playing short chips and pitches is a great way to understand the techniques and build the muscle memory to play these shots in “the heat of competition” - £1 roll-up, weekend competition or the Club Championship. Be prepared to put in some release practice time and expect to see a great improvement in your game. Recommended.

The simplicity that lies on the far side of complexity
I have just bought, finished and re-read this book on the advice of Tom Kirtley Pro at Southwold GC, who thought it would be good for me. I have worked with different coaches for 10 years and have even produced my own ‘book’ with a combination of coaching advice I have received, classic teaching and further research. I’m a bit autistic and frankly I had reached the point where too much of it conflicted and I didn’t know what was right. This was almost worse than just leaving it to my natural sporting skills! I love coaching - and have qualified as both a rowing coach and football coach - so recognise and appreciate the huge value of good coaching. This book has bought a level of clarity, a precision of thought, a meaningful practical methodology and has also managed to embrace the human and psychological elements of actually playing the game on grass, that certainly my ‘book’ (and honestly even most of the coaching I have had) just did not come close to reaching. Thank you for producing this book. I can clearly see that it comes from a genuine place of wanting to help - and I think recognise some of the confusion that abounds amongst good-but-not-nearly-as-good-as-they-could-be golfers that frustrates and holds back so many. I have no idea whether you’ll sell millions, make millions or help millions, but you have helped me and I genuinely think that you written something different, important and on a higher level in terms of clarity and creating meaningful change. That is something beyond the norm and I suspect reflects your involvement with other interesting, intelligent people who have helped with cross-pollination and led to a really special piece of work. Somebody spoke to me recently - in business not sport - about ‘the simplicity that lies on the far side of complexity’. It is easy to say the above and very, very hard to achieve. Thank you. Benjamin

End the fear!
As a high handicapper, chipping and pitching around the green filled me with dread each time. All too often I would use the same approach to every shot irrespective of lie leading to the chipping lottery of fat, thin, and everything in between. I purchased the Three Releases kindle version so I could take it out and practice: the results have been incredible. Most high handicappers like myself struggle with low point striking - and hence hitting the ball consistently - the three release system addresses this fundament with a structured, repeatable setup that takes the guesswork out of the short game. Each release is chosen to best suit lie, hazard, ball release etc. for the desired shot outcome. The importance of a solid and repeatable setup for each shot is drilled home to increase the chances of optimal ball contact. Without doubt this little book has transformed my game. I now relish the chance to apply these techniques rather than looking at the shot with a sense of hopelessness. The book is probably best used as a practising companion aided by the numerous video demonstrations available on YouTube. Make certain to view as many as you can as I've found little gems for each release are scattered throughout the content. If you're struggling with your short game and want the best chance to salvage a poor approach shot, buy this book and end the fear!

Thanks Dan, I am finally able to control the ball when attacking the green, been a long struggle for me. I am also enjoying the bunker techniques and the approach shots too. Thanks again, Steve

Great short game system!
I had a lot of inconsistencies with my short game, especially my pitching technique. Dan's system provides a great framework to avoid guessing and instead focus on making a repeatable swing every time. I bought the book to improve my game around the green, but I ended up with a complete short game system I can replicate. Now I know exactly what to practice to build consistency from 90 yards and in.
