Star Wars: Han Solo in Carbonite Silicone Ice Tray/Chocolate Mold

I saw this fantastic link through various web surfing, only to find that the places in the article quoted were sold out. On a lark, I checked Amazon, and booyah, here it is. I ordered it despite the feedback saying it was flimsy...I mean, it's a novelty ice cube tray. If I have to carry it via plate to the freezer...that's fine. It's worth it. I can only guess how the "flimsy" feedback-giver was carrying the tray...perhaps on his (or her) head? Maybe slung over the back of their Tauntaun? In any case, moving this tray with, say, both hands, works quite well. The smaller ice cubes are a little smaller than I thought they would be. I couldn't visualize how big they'd be, and in the actual product, they're as long as my thumb and a little thinner. The big mold is *almost* large enough to hold a regular sized figurine to give you an idea of length and width. All in all...I hope to be cooling my adult beverage with a few frozen Han ice cubes tomorrow!

This product is great. I bought this as a gift for my younger brother because he loves Star Was even more than I do. He was thrilled about this. This has multiple uses and some work better than others. For ice this is just okay. It's hard to really see some of the detail and only being having 6 small sized molds makes this sub-ideal as an ice tray. But it still is pretty darn cool. This mold is somewhat more suited toward food use. My brother and I found a recipe for gummy candy and used this mold for it. The candies turned out great. The candy picks up the details much better than the ice and since the candy doesn't take as long to set it's much more practical. We used this and the R2-D2 mold so one would set while we filled the other. It works great for chocolate as well. Being made of food grade silicone this tray can be used for a lot. Many of its uses it does very well but if you're buying it solely to use as an ice tray you may find yourself slightly disappointed with the level of detail in your ice. But overall it is a great product.

The tray is a bit on the smaller end but it is sturdy. what i find to be an issue with the ice is that when the ice expands in the fridge it shifts so like one part of the design will lift up and unfrozen water spills down so its not absolutely perfect. and I guess it might be because I use water straight from my water filter, but the fact that there's bubbles in the cubes take away from the appeal. i just read about double boiling water before freezing to get clear ice, but i'll have to try it some other day when i have more time. cute concept though!

It's OK and fun. As ice cubes, the larger unit is cool and you can easily make out details of Han in Carbonite. The smaller "cubes" are useless and you can in no way make out any detail at all as ice cubes. As a chocolate mold, not too bad, better than ice and although not movie authentic, if you mix in colors to get the detail and then go with a different background chocolate color, it looks even better, even on the small ones. Three stars is a little high, but two is low. they are better off going with three large molds instead of six small and one large.

My husband is a Star Wars nerd, in every way possible. Not a birthday or holiday goes by without someone giving him something Star Wars related, me included. That means finding him something he doesn't already have is slowly becoming quite the hunt! When I found this, though, I knew it was perfect for Christmas. Although the tray itself is smaller than I expected, I'm very pleased with the details in both the smaller Han Solos and the single larger piece. The silicon is of nice quality, and this could easily be used for ice or to make chocolate bars. Definitely worth adding to your special someone's Star Wars collection!

This tray works great for making Hon Solo ice cubes, but when used with choclate or soap I actually find the quality to be higher and the level of detail more pronounced than with ice. Some have claimed that the tray is flimsy, and this is kinda true, you need to put it on a plate or cutting board to transport it to the freezer. Also it has been noted that this is small, also true, but if you want cool Han Solo novelty ice it works great, if you are looking to replace your ice tray, probably not such a great purchase. All in all lots of fun, and it works great.

I bought this as a gift for my boyfriend. He had been looking at the same product on another web site, and was very excited about it, but didn't end up purchasing one. I did a search on Amazon, and ordered it for him here. He was so happy when he opened it up, and had to start using it right away. The ice cubes are pretty small- it's definitely more of a novelty item, but any Star Wars fan, young or old, is sure to love this as a gift. I may buy him the larger tray later on to see if he likes it better/can use it for more stuff. His friends have already suggested all sorts of ways he could use them for a Star Wars themed party- chocolates, butter pats... :)

Great concept, and I'd buy it again purely for the concept and the conversation piece that it is. But in terms of ice-cubes, what comes out is imperceptibly Han frozen in carbonite in my experience, after multiple tries. We keep giving it a shot, but it's always the idea that it might come out clean and clear enough to make out what it is rather than the actual results that keep us coming back. Now, I've only tried ice. I suspect that chocolate would actually work quite well and be very cool. We'll try that come winter when we have time to kill.
