Three stories follow Nanea as she navigates changes to her island way of life after Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor. Review: Fun and Interesting Book - Fun and interesting way to learn about history of WW2 and Pearl Harbor, enjoyed being able to choose the ending in the third book, learning about Hawaii. Characters feel like real people that you can relate to, show living with and resolving problems as well as happy times. Review: Nice gift - I can't speak to the content of these books because I haven't read these specifically. I love American girl in general though, and this is a great quality, nice looking set of books.

Where's the history
I'm disappointed about the lack of historical information that used to in the back of the books. It was interesting though to learn what happened in Hawaii durning WWII

A Great Way to Introduce Young Readers to the Aftermath of Pearl Harbor
I've long believed that historical fiction is one of the best tools for creating awareness in young readers and, hopefully, enticing them to learn more about our history. This set of books takes readers back to the aftermath of the attack on Pearl Harbor through the unique perspective of a young Hawaiian girl navigating the scary new territory of a war that feels very close to home. From worrying about her dog, who goes missing after the attack, to later worrying about her beloved brother, who signs up to fight, Nanea is faced with huge worries and fears, yet she navigates them as so many children of the war did by doing all she can to help with Victory Gardens, War Bond drives, and volunteering gigs at the Red Cross and USO. She proves that in times of trouble, your age matters less than your commitment and determination. That's a valuable lesson for kids to learn today.
