HIGH QUALITY UNIT Made in Japan
I am not a diabetic, but need to monitor blood sugar for a while. It was pure luck I found this QUALITY UNIT with all the junk out there being sold. This is MADE IN JAPAN--Japan made products are always of the highest quality. (I now have a new understanding and empathy for the discomfort diabetics go thru pricking their fingers all day for testing.) -The batteries were included. -The quick start guide was easy; simply take your time to read through it to set date/time, etc. -Once you slip the test strip in the unit, the unit automatically turns on. -The unit gives you the opportunity to identify if you are fasting, before meal, or after meal, or none, for each test. -As soon as you put the blood on the strip, then a little clock timer comes on the screen for a few seconds, then the reading shows up. -I can't really feel the prick with that little poker/lancet device. The person who invented that device should be given an award. It would be impossible to keep self-pricking fingers. -The unit will ask for more blood if needed--you have 30 seconds to add more--while the strip is in the unit -THE KEY WITH THE TEST STRIP IS: There is a tiny rectangular shaped gray area on the bottom of the test strip, and if you place the end of the test strip to touch your drop of blood, that little gray rectangle will pull in your blood like a magnet. So once your little drop of blood is on your skin, just move the end of the test strip into the drop, and you'll see that little gray section just pull in the blood like a magnet. -The larger User Guide is high quality, impressively structured and well written, and all of it is in English. One can perceive this is a professional unit, professionally designed, and this manufacturer just didn't mess around or compromise on quality. I give this unit 10 Stars!

The New Accuchek?
The Accuchek Advantage was the gold standard for glucometer accuracy when I was first diagnosed. I kept it as long as I could until my insurance made me go to One Touch (middling-above average at best) and then to a Dexcom CGM. For calibrating a CGM, the One Touch worked- not great, but well enough. Fast forward and the supply chain issues of the last few years had left me without CGM supplies for a few periods of time. Needing to go back to a glucometer, I started digging into something that would be a better fit for daily use. Looking around, the Contour Next got great ratings on accuracy. Over time and using the two different calibration solutions, the accuracy has held true. The lancing device is actually very nice, holding the lancet securely, the cap locks shut securely, and the depth control has nice firm detents. If you've used a variety of these, you'll know they are a mixed bag depending on what comes with your glucometer (I used my Accuchek lancing device well after being made to go to One Touch until it finally broke). This one is nice and sets the bar. While it's not the least-expensive option for paying for out of pocket, the accuracy is worth it and supplies are available in big-box stores and online in addition to pharmacies. If you've been a T1D for the last 20+ years, you probably remember the really good glucometers that have since been overtaken by an influx of mediocre white label glucometers (looking at you, Bayer/ReliOn/ whatever Walgreen's branded one is called). This is a return to the great glucometers.

Oustanding & Accurate!
First of all, the meter is extremely easy to set up! It comes with everything you need to get started and the price is incredible for any of the 3 options. I chose the cheaper one in case I had to return it. My Precision Neo went bad and I needed a replacement so I purchased this one. I never had a problem with the accuracy with the Precision Neo. My daughter gave me a True Metrix Air. I used it or 3 days but I knew from my past readings it was reading higher than my glucose was. My body is very sensitive when my blood sugar goes below the best level. I am overcoming hypoglycemia. The True Metrix was reading 10-12 higher, though it may be in an acceptable range, it is not the best accuracy for me. I used this right away and did 2 tests which were within 1 point and I knew the reading was correct based on the symptoms I began to have. This meter also only requires a small amount of blood! I have great confidence that my readings will be accurate with the new Contour Next monitor. The strips are a little more but the accuracy of the reading is worth it! Buy with confidence. Don't waste your money on cheaper models or models with less expensive strips because it will cost you in the long run!
