The description says "update" supports pass through charging. i cannot, however get anything to charge while the power bank, itself, is charging?

Yes it does, but there's a trick: You must first plug the cable to charge the battery pack, and second, press the power button until the display says 5V. This enables pass-through mode. Of course you can double-press the power button if you need to adjust the DC output if needed. Just remember that when you plug in the charging cable for the battery pack, it will immediately shut off the output until you turn it on again.

how does manufacturer come up 50000 mah ? what cell using ?

I believe that is at 3.7V, so 50,000mAh * 3.7V = 185 Wh.

Does it/ can it be used to change a Surface pro 4
