These are traditional Japanese cooking chopsticks — known as saibashi — the kind that's a staple in any Japanese kitchen. At 13 inches (33 cm), the extra length keeps your hands well away from heat, oil and steam, whether you're deep-frying tempura, tossing noodles, working a hot pot, or plating up. They can even double as a pair of bamboo tongs. Made from natural bamboo, they're lightweight and durable, resist heat, and won't scratch your cookware. The narrow, anti-slip tips give you a secure grip on everything from a single noodle to a piece of fish. A traditional [red/black] rabbit, sakura and moon design makes them pretty enough to use at the table, too — and an easy gift for anyone who loves Japanese cooking. Crafted in Fukui Prefecture by a Japanese maker established in 1948. Care: Hand wash with warm water and wipe dry. Keep out of direct sunlight, boiling water and open flame for long periods to prevent warping or discolouration. Do not use metal scourers or abrasives, and do not microwave.
