They offered me merchandise credit if I return them, which I will do at my shipping cost. I researched other brands and found these Salomon shoes with decent reviews and aggressive looking traction. I normally buy a 11 wide, but there were no wide options so I tried the 11 but had to exchange for a 11.5 due to pinching just behind my toes. These fit a little tight on one foot but since the insole could be removed to free up room as a last resort, I decided to keep them and hope they wear-in. After only one use, my foot felt comfortable walking and within a few days they were a perfect fit. The attached picture shows shoes in a shallow stream with toecaps submerged but not coming over the bootie. No water penetration and even the outer material didn't seem to saturate with water like the Columbia shoes did. The wet traction was noticeably improved over previous brands I have tried but of course slippery rocks remain slippery. The aggressive traction is very good on hilly trails with loose rocks/pebbles. Also noteworthy, I purchased "used like-new" for a significant savings which I try to do whenever I can to reduce costs (depending on the product and potential for it being resold with a flaw not identified in the prior-return process). With only a short amount of usage so far, these shoes check all the boxes for me, and if nothing changes, I will certainly plan to repurchase when the need arises. Unfortunately the East Bloc-made Lowas have become really pricey. So I decided to try these Indian-made Salomons. So far, I'm very satisfied. They are supportive and comfortable. They resist my natural tendency to pronate very well. My feet and lower back are happy after several long days of standing and walking. Grip seems good. This model is water-resistant (note some other Salomons that look similar are not). Breathability is good. So far the grip has been good too.
