A Court of Silver Flames (A Court of Thorns and Roses, 5)

I enjoyed this one way more than I thought I would. A Court of Silver Flames by Sarah J Maas is the newest installment of A Court of Thorns and Roses, following Nesta as she navigates her new life as a Fae with a little help from Cassian. This book picks up a year after A Court of Frost and Starlight. During that year, Feyre and Elain have given Nesta her space, hoping that in doing so Nesta would come to terms with everything that has happened to her. Instead, Nesta has only gotten worse. Now she is offered a last chance to set things right, and the person she is ordered to work with is the one person she can’t stand the sight of. Both heartbreaking and uplifting A Court of Silver Flames delves deep into how trauma can affect our everyday lives and the steps to overcome it. Nesta was never my favorite character…that is until I read this book. I thought her unnecessarily cruel and brash, caring only for herself and how the situation of others reflected upon her. Oh how I was wrong! Nesta is more like Feyre. In fact, I’d go as far to say they are identical which is probably why they don’t get along so well. While Nesta puts up a fierce face, her insides are cracked, broken, and festering. Watching helpless as the king of Hybern turned Elain into a Fae then facing the same fate was just the tip of the iceberg Nesta has to overcome. Unable to stop her father’s death and witnessing it haunts her every waking moment. All of this combined with the fact that those who she should be able to rely on do not trust her and fear the power that resides in her. All of this culminates into the person we see at the beginning of the book: a callous drunk who sleeps with random strangers to keep the nightmares at bay. After one particular night where she spent an ungodly amount of the Night Lord’s money, Cassian arrives and forces her to go to Feyre. It is this scene that is a pivot point for her. Feyre offers Nesta some tough love: go live at the House of Wind, work in the library below, no drinking and train with Cassian or go back to the mortal world to live alone as she has shut everyone out. Resentful and just a bit bitter, Nesta begrudgingly accepts and thus the story begins. Cassian is one of my favorites of the series. I could read stories about Azriel and him all day. As the commander of Rhys’s armies, Cassian has big shoes to fill. He’s always been a jokester, downplaying his responsibilities because he doesn’t believe in himself. He believes he is nothing more than an Illyrian bastard despite the power running through his veins. After losing a large force during the war, Cassian must regain the trust of his troops and also find peace for himself. Yet another battle looms, and he isn’t sure how to face it. Add to that he now has to train Nesta, and he feels like he is barely treading water. Despite all of this, Cassian sees to the heart of Nesta and realizes they aren’t that different. So much happens in this story! Nesta dealing with her severe PTSD, Cassian taking on more responsibility, and the hunt for three mythical artifacts that may turn the tide and settle the unrest in Prythian. I personally enjoyed every word, even the hard stuff. I laughed a lot, I cried a little, and I swooned majorly. I also love two characters that are brought in later who become friends and confidantes of Nesta. They are wonderful, and I hope to see more of them. Overall, I loved A Court of Silver Flames. I couldn’t read it fast enough. I’ll be honest, I was hesitant to continue reading the series because I thought it had a good ending, but I’m SO glad I continued because Nesta and Cassian are perfect! The story is one that needed to be told. I loved how Maas handled Nesta’s depression and self-loathing. It brought her to life off the pages and resonated so deeply with me. If you are a fan of the series, I highly recommend it.

I honestly don’t know how to say what I want to say about this series. I have been reading non-stop and sneaking in little reading periods whenever I could. I was actually excited to finish my workday so that I could go home and curl up to read. I would read when I should have been doing something around my house! I was hooked on this story from the first book. I adored Feyre from the beginning. I actually liked Tamlin, but just knew Rhys was so much more and craved the connection that he and Feyre had. This story was just so well developed and written. Each of the characters were given so much attention and they were developed beautifully. You just have to love all of them! Their family connection in this last book was perfect. I feel like there are some real families that are not this close or loving. Sarah Maas was masterful in each character”s development. This was a very long series/story, but it never got boring or repetitive. It needed to be this long and I honestly did not want it to end. I want to know what happens with each of them. Azriel, Mor??? And what about Elain? Does she ever find happiness with her mate? This was the first fae/fantasy series I have read and I really did enjoy it. I am now a Sarah j Maas fan and will be trying her other works. I just need to recover from this book hangover first. Or actually savor it a little longer before I can move on. I absolutely recommend this series even if you don’t think it is your cup of tea. Give it a try !!! You may fall hard like I did….

What an amazing chapter in the Court series. Gasps of exasperation, joy and horror at every turn. I loved watching Nesta grow into a powerful, kind and beautiful woman, though there were times I yelled at her to stop torturing herself and everyone around her. Great story development and characterizations making this one of the best fantasy adventures I have ever read! Can't wait for the next book in October! Enjoy!

I enjoyed this book way more than the prior books in this series. I’m not sure if it was because Nesta was the main perspective but I’m glad I was able to enjoy the story and characters more in this book. With that said I did have some issues with it but I will talk about more in a bit. First off, I love Nesta. I know she isn’t easy to be around and she has been mean to this and that person but I always saw her as someone who is dealing, or not dealing, with her trauma. People react differently to trauma. We can’t expect everyone to just be sad and shutdown. Nesta lashes out, hurts herself and others but that is her not being able to move past her pain, her anger and being able to heal. We can’t expect her to know this and just be nice to everyone. That isn’t how trauma works. I relate to Nesta. I’m so proud of her in this book. It isn’t an easy journey but she finds a way little by little to overcome her fears, pain, able to let go of her anger and find some peace of mind. I also love her I-don’t-take-crap-from-anyone attitude. I love that she stands up to people, that she doesn’t bow down to the oh so magnificent Rhysand. Once she is on your side, she is a true and loyal friend and ally. I’m just so happy for her journey in this book. I loved seeing the little moments between Nesta and Cassian where they took the time to understand and listen to each other. Those little moments where they can be vulnerable. There was a lot of displays of their physical attraction but I loved the other moments where they talk, fight, bicker or recognize the determination to change and grow. I always felt that there isn’t much plot in SJM books. Not much happens until the last 100 pages. I know you can argue lots of stuff happens but this book was mostly training and discussions among the group. There was a lot of info that they just knew already and that made the plot around the things they were trying to find a bit too convenient. I wanted to see a struggle. Conflict they couldn’t easily get past or solve. Info was presented, there was some fighting and blood was shed but then they moved on. The ending was interesting but then was resolved quickly within the last 80 pages. This book felt like the first book in a series so I’m hoping the next books will have more to add beyond the romance and relationships between the characters. The writing was better. Less juvenile. Less eye rolling on my behalf. Many sex scenes that were way less cringey than the prior books but just a lot of sex that I didn’t need but for those of you that look for them, you will be pleased. Nesta pushes a lot of people away but she made two wonderful new friends in this book which I absolutely loved. These are two women who have been through their own trauma and like Nesta, are working together to take the next step forward. There was a real sisterhood and they helped each other so much to heal and protect each other. That was all so lovely. This book is probably my favorite of the series so far. Nesta’s journey made me cry and my heart went out to her. I did have some issues with the plot and pace of the story but overall I’m happy I read this book and can’t wait for the next one.

I absolutely loved this book. I honestly thought it was the best of the series Nesta's story was so special to me.

There is nothing in this series I did not like, the characters are amazing. There are so many twist and turns to keep you reading non stop, the romance is amazing. This series will make you tremble in fear and then have you breathless with your toes curling. Have read it twice and can't wait for books 6 and 7

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I am Nesta. I don’t think I’ve ever read a character who made me feel so deeply seen. As an eldest daughter, I related to Nesta in ways that honestly surprised me. Her anger, her walls, her independence, the way she carries things silently, and the way she loves so deeply even when she doesn’t always know how to show it, I understood her on a level that felt almost uncomfortable at times. This book gave me so much understanding of myself and why I am the way I am. Nesta’s journey reminded me that there is so much more underneath the parts of ourselves that other people find difficult to understand. Sometimes surviving looks ugly. Sometimes healing is messy. And sometimes you have to learn how to choose yourself before you can truly let anyone else in. I laughed, I cried, I hurt with her, and I rooted for her every step of the way. This book wasn’t just a story to me, it felt personal. I genuinely wish I could read A Court of Silver Flames for the first time over and over again. Nesta will always have a very special place in my heart. 🤍

I went in with low expectations shaped by what others said, and walked out completely humbled. What sets this book apart is how deeply human Nesta's story feels. It doesn't ask you to excuse her — it gives you something better: understanding. Watching someone struggle not just with their emotions, but with acknowledging they exist for a reason, felt genuinely real in a way fantasy rarely achieves. That's the kind of storytelling that makes you look inward. The sisterhood dynamic was written with real honesty — not everyone receives love the way it's given, and this book doesn't shy away from that truth. And yes — this is without question the spiciest book in the series. The Nesta and Cassian dynamic was equal parts frustrating and irresistible, and Cassian's quiet suffering throughout was genuinely moving. I could read this again. Waiting until October for the next one is going to hurt. Standing ovation to Sarah J. Maas — this one earned it.

I was a bit hesitant to start A Court of Silver Flames even though I love anything Sarah writes. My foremost reason for this was my dislike for Nesta. I did struggle for the first half of the book with Nesta's behavior, but progressing further in the book I began to understand why Nesta behaves the way she does and near the end I actually started liking her to my own surprise. I'm also so happy I still got to read a lot about Feyre and Rhys and the other important characters. I have to say that at the end I really loved this book. Sarah's writing was, as always, phenomenal and transfered me to another world!

I had my doubts about this book because I was so in love with Feyre and Rhys that I thought I couldn’t love Cassian and Nesta. But this book brought tears to my eyes and heartaches. I loved this book just as much as I loved the others. I am so moved by the finale that I have no words.

I have read the whole series in a few weeks and I think it might be one of my fav series. I think it's the way Sarah has built this world, I just get lost in it and love reading about these characters. It was enjoyable to read from Nesta's & Cassian's perspective, I could really relate and imagine the journey that Nesta went on. Her descriptions of drowning in her fears, then facing them and then trying to embrace and overcome them was something I could really relate to. It was cool to hear more about the history, magic and powers this world has. I did think that sometimes it was so character building that the drama side of the plot for a bit of a back seat, and for some readers they might not like that. However I think it all wove in to each part of the story really well in the end. It was cool to read about such a strong friendship with Nesta and her girlfriends. The romance between Cassian and Nesta is so steamy!! But done very tastefully. I also think it really adds to their story so I think it was a good addition. Not going to lie that I think there is still a lot of story to tell about Feyre & Rhys and it was a little sad to have them side lined. I don't think Rhys is a character that suits the side line. I think there is a lot of story to tell about all the other characters and I can't wait for the next book! Might go back and reread them all now!

Excellent series. Should have bought the whole series from the start. Gets a bit spicy towards the final books in the series. The story line was excellent.
