Huel Hot and Savory is an interesting take on meal replacement.
So far I have only tried the Indian curry, but I went in with really low expectations. Huel's Hot and Savory line gets terrible reviews! To put this into perspective, I am a quite confident home cook, if I do say so myself. I needed Huel because there are days where I am off to a quick start doing many different things. I don't have the time sometimes to make a whole lunch or prepare it the day before. I feel like many people find themselves in this situation, where they either miss breakfast, lunch, or even both. On those days, as of recent, I have been happy to just mix some Huel with water, pop it in old Chef Mike for two-and-a-half minutes and then boom, it's a nutritionally complete meal. It is worth noting that I would say to think of Huel Hot and Savory (at least the Indian Curry) as a savory oatmeal. It is made with a lot of quinoa and rice bits. So when you get the idea in mind about what the consistency is going to be like, the flavor is very tasty. While I am mentioning the flavor, the Spicy Indian Curry is heavily spiced and almost like an Indian chili in a way, it is not to be confused with the flavor or Tikka Masala or Butter Chicken though, it is far from that. It has a very mild tongue burn, but I was happy to see little red chili bits in the Huel. I have seen other reviewers mention a high sodium content, overall I don't find it to be overbearing at all or too salty on flavor. As for sodium content besides flavor, as this is a full meal replacement, it is good to have this salt. For my diet, I find it to be a proper amount of salt considering I only eat this stuff when I was too busy to make lunch or breakfast. In moments like this, I wouldn't have had any salt this whole time yet drank a lot of water, so the salt actually comes in to replenish otherwise low levels of sodium. So the bottom line: Huel is good if you would like a meal replacement that isn't a shake. It comes in a variety of flavors that which I am going to try. It is worth noting that buying directly from Huel, you can buy more bags and save money. The high price point on Amazon is a bit misleading but it is okay if you're like me and you would have rather tried it first. The Spicy Indian Curry was great, I would get it again if it wasn't sold out currently on Huel's official website. Here's to hoping that Huel keeps on refining their recipes and making the food taste better. The spicy Indian Curry is great but with just a little more work, I'm sure it could appeal to the masses.

Itโs ok but a bit expensive
Cost is a bit high and not spicy enough for my liking prolly wonโt order more though.

Sigh. Itโs bad in all the ways I hoped it would be good.
Before I get started, I just want to say Iโm not someone who only writes bad reviews. If you check out my profile, you should see a pretty good mix of different star reviews. That saidโฆ. I have been getting bombarded with Huel advertising for the past six months. My wife and I have two kids under the age of three and donโt have as much time for cooking as we used to. So I figured I would take the leap and give it a chance since it seemed like a high protein, low effort mealโฆ perfect for stressed out vegetarian parents. Taste: Bad. So bad. :( Read some of the other reviews. Itโs bland. The consistency of textures isnโt quite right. Somehow too soft and too hard at the same time. Itโs possible I cooked it wrong but the cooking instructions are akin to making Mac and cheese. Body feeling: About five hours after eating this for the first time, I got a pretty bad stomachache. Sorry if this is TMI, but I was incredibly gassy for the rest of the day while itโs possible that that came from something else, most of what I had eaten that day are things that I eat regularly. when my stomach started to hurt, I asked myself what did I eat? This doesnโt feel right. Price: itโs hard to say if this is overpriced or not. This is a weird market so itโs probably priced as it should but now that Iโve tried it, it feels extremely overpriced. I suppose something is worth what people are willing to pay for it and I paid this so thatโs probably on me. Return policy: I actually bought two bags of these and had planned to return one of them since I had such a bad reaction to it, but when I clicked on the return button, it said โthere is no return policy.โ Which is the exception and not the rule with Amazon these days. ๐ Sighโฆ my plan is to try to give this away for free on Buy nothing. Team H: If someone from the company is reading this, I really wanted to like your product! It seemed like a really great solution to a problem I had as a father of two kids with limited time. I feel like the idea is five stars, but for me, the execution just isnโt there. Itโs possible I wouldโve liked some of the other recipes more? But I had such a bad experience with one with this one that I probably wonโt try the second ($40) bag. To anyone else reading this, Iโd log this product in the โtoo good to trueโ bucket. I donโt know how else to say it, but Iโm really surprised that someone tasted this and went to market with it. It probably needed 2 to 3 more iterations.

With scoop?
Product tastes great my only problem it is advertised as โwith lastfuel scoopโ but it does not in fact come with said scoop. Itโs not a deal breaker but the Amazon listing needs to be updated. The taste and texture is 5 stars but Iโm only giving it 3 for the false listing of the item, I believe sellers should be held responsible for false listings of their products.

Quick, Convenient and Healthy
I keep it at work for a quick breakfast. I just boil water in my Electric Kettle and mix up a cup. it holds me over until lunch and it tastes good. It also prevents me from buying crap out of convenience. It's not gourmet food. It is just a healthy, simple, quick meal.

Itโs meh.
I guess it works. Taste is poor but cheap and easy.

good cost per meal value
the stuff tastes good. could use a little more salt. I like spicy food, this really hits the spot. I use this because it's just easier than having to meal prep and count macros to try to loose weight. This is 9 points a serving on weight watchers. at 400 calories and 25 G protien with 10 G fiber. roughly 6.25 a meal when you figure in taxes. . . its economical both time and money wise. It's filling without bloating you, and most important, tastes good.

Amazing flavor, delicious!
I ordered the Spicy Indian Curry and it tastes amazing! The texture reminds me of refried beans. I could see adding more water to make it like a thick soup. It's very filling, it was almost more than I could eat. It's very satisfying. The downside, they talk about measuring out two scoops, but don't include a scoop in the bag. Thankfully the serving size also gives the gram weight so I used my kitchen scale and a scoop I had in my kitchen to figure how many scoops would equal the correct weight. I plan on trying some of the other flavors. If you're a vegetarian and needing a quick meal with high protein and low carbs this fits the bill. Do forget to stir the ingredients really well before you measure out before you measure it so you get a goid blend of the spices.
