It is real carbon which has a slightly deeper finish appearance than the simulated carbon finishes you find on hard plastic panels. It is very flexible unlike the plastic panel covers. But there appears to be a tradeoff. This panel covers the control panel in 3 pieces instead of 1. As a result, you have the additional seams between the pieces. They don't look bad, but they are additional seams that are normally not on the factory panel. The one piece plastic panels with simulated carbon don't have any of those seams, but have the simulated carbon finish instead. So it is just a matter of preference. Install on the panel was super easy. It was a little trickier to fit the lower side pieces on the small storage bin, but still reasonable. So far everything has remained securely attached.
