Excellent value for the money
A few knives have been in the kitchen drawer for years - so dull that they're unusable. I used the 1000 stone followed by the 3000 to get them back in working order. I like that this set includes a 400 stone, when you need REALLY aggressive.Stones worked well after soaking for 15 minutes, and I was able to get a good edge.

Good quality for price
BEGINNER FRIENDLY: These are great stones for a beginner to learn knife-sharpening on. The material is not too tough on the knives, so you will not grind off too much of your blade while learning, as you may with higher quality stones like diamond stones.BELLS AND WHISTLES: to be honest, pretty much everything in this kit is unnecessary except for the stones themselves. While the angle guide may be helpful to beginners, we are not told what angle the guide holds the blade at. Obviously, the angle of the knife is very important (most kitchen knife blades are at a 15 degree angle, while pocket knives have 20-25 degree angles). The grinding stone, while good in theory, is not effective in this particular kit because the grinding stone is only a fraction of the size of the sharpening stones. Ideally, grinding stones are the same size as the sharpening stones to ensure that the entire sharpening stone gets ground down evenly. Personally, I have never used the wooden base. Instead, I would recommend getting a rubber pet-food mat (like the ones with a lip that you put on the ground under dog bowls to keep spills contained) to use while sharpening. Because the stones need to be splashed with water often while sharpening, this mat is very helpful in keeping the water contained. Additionally, pet-food mats are usually nonslip, which gives you a steady, safe base to sharpen on.QUALITY: for $20, this kit is great. Just don't expect it to last you very long. When it arrived, some of the stones were already chipped on the corners, but as the corners are not used during sharpening a blade they are still functional.

Does the job
Product was well packaged and arrived on schedule without any damage. The stones and base are well made and they are easily used. Using the angle guide helps you properly set the sharpening angle and using the four stones gives you a very sharp knife blade. They sharpen both large and small knives. Am very satisfied with the purchase. The cost of the kit was less than the cost of having four knives sharpened at a sharpening business. The knives also seem to be retaining their edge longer.

Will do a very good job.
Everything is as advertised and for a guy like myself who hates a dull blade this set has it all. The stones fit nicely in the retainer box with the rubber cushion and you go from hoe dull to razor sharp very quickly. I really like it.

Too fine
This set would be perfect for dressing knives that already have a good, but not keen, edge. The stones are very soft. The roughest stone is 400 grit and was showing wear after attempting to sharpen one large butcher knife.
