You shouldn't! It restricts air flow. Only use when AC is not in use. Remove the disconnect Pull-Out Head from the disconnect box near your unit. (Usually plugging it in upside down is the off position.) Then install your cover to keep out leaves and debris during Autumn and Winter. Don't forget the pull-out in the Spring when you remove the cover.

Q: I have a 26x26 round ac unit, will the 28x28 size work fine?

It does not matter whether round or square. Just lay the cover on top of the ac unit and bangie cord with hook on the grill.

Q: I have a 28in unit. How to choose the cover size?

You can choose 28" or 32" cover. I suggest you choose a larger size than the unit to protect the entire top.

Q: Does anyone know if they keep pine needles out of the ac unit?

Yes, the ac unit cover keeps them out. Pretty much all debris and rodents.
