Is this a mimo antenna?

No, it is a single polarization antenna, suitable for signal booster and routers. if you need the mimo antenna ,please consider the ASIN:B09C4K747Q ,https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B09C4K747Q

what kind of adapter do you need to plug into a booster (same as tv cable) the package has all unfamiliar fittings too me

hello ,the connector of cable in this items is SMA male, and with a N male adapter , that means if your device is with SMA female or N female port , you don't need to buy more other adapter ,

If it's supposed to be omni-directional, why do some reviews state the need to point it towards a tower?

The comment may refer to another parabolic antenna. This antenna is indeed an omnidirectional antenna. Of course, when you install it, you have to test it to find the best installation position, and you still have to consider the influence of surrounding obstacles and suitable installation heights on the signal.

This is Omni-directional correct? I see people referring to "pointing" it in some reviews

yes ,it is Omni-directional antenna. It's a big guy, it's 75cm long and 6.5cm wide.
