Review: sturdy & well crafted feral cat shelter - I bought one, set it up, then went back and bought a second one. The setup instructions are pretty straightforward, and I got through both setups without problems, but I did find I had to stare at the hinge diagram/instructions extra-long to ensure I got it right both times. The second house setup was a little bit faster than the first house setup, likely because only a week or two separated the builds. I really like this shelter because is sturdy, solid, and safe. There is not a second door for an escape door. This keeps the warmth in and keeps the shelter size to a manageable size. I have one feral shelter mostly out in the open because that area doesn't have much roof overlap. We also set beverages on the roof of the shelter when we were outside by our pool in our small backyard. The other feral shelter is located on my covered open porch. For the shelter on my covered open porch, I leave the roof open on the shelter. I've had these about 8 months, and they still look brand new (refer photos) as they use quality, sturdy materials for the shelter construction. I highly recommend these due to the construction. One add-on that would extend the life: either position the completed feral shelter structure on cement, stone or seal the bottom of legs with paint or spar polyurethane because water will wick-up the legs along the woodgrain. Anything made with real wood needs this, so it is not unique to this shelter. In fact, I see it as a plus that the legs are real wood. Sealing the grain should help these shelters last perhaps 10+ years, depending on if any other maintenance arises over time. If ever I need another feral shelter, I'll be back to get a third from here. Finally, while shipping date posted was given, I want to thank this company. When I ordered my second feral cat house, single digit cold was in the Texas weather forecast. They sped up the delivery and I had it constructed and outside to keep the neighborhood strays more snuggly outside in advance of the worst of the winter storm. This coming year, I am so pleased that because construction is so quality, I'm ready - and I'm probably ready for the next 10-20 years' winters! THANK YOU FOR MAKING SUCH A GREAT SHELTER! In case desertcart combines my feral cat shelter with other products, this is my shelter's description: GDLF Outdoor Cat House Feral Cat Enclosure 100% Insulated All-Round Foam Weatherproof Solid Wood Large Size for Multiple Cats 34.5" L*21.5" W*27.2" H I hope this review helps others.
Review: Best Cat House for Your Money - I've had this Cat House for over a year now and my cat just loves it. She took to it right away. I would rather have her stay in my home, but she doesn't want anything to do with that....being that she was a stray living on her own when I trapped her and had her spayed. She has warmed up to me and I can pet her now. I like the fact that it has a separate compartment (separated by a removable wooden divider), where she can feel safe from predators. I purchased an outdoor heating pad and place that in the bottom under the warm comfy blanket, when the weather gets colder. I love the fact that water runs off of the roof when it rains. and you can open it up from the top to replace the blankets. I place a soft cat bed on top of the house during nice weather, as she loves to lay on top of it. This is very sturdy house. The only issue I have it the little awning that goes over the door is now kind of chipping away underneath, as it is not a solid piece of wood, but more like thin pieces underneath a solid piece of wood. I will have my husband patch it up. it still keeps the rain out, when needed. I will be purchasing another one, should i need it for my other cat or any new one I rescue. I had purchased a kitty tube with a heating pad for him years ago, and he seems to like that once it gets really cold. Between the two, i like this one more. i wish they would offer a light colored outdoor fitted cover to go over the top of this, as in the summer time, being its black roofing like material, it gets really hot, when I have it on my deck. Worth every penny I paid for it and very easy to put together.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: I’ve always heard cats need another exit. Do you have any with two exits?**
A: Trust me they prefer 2 exits. We built a DIY cat house with one entrance 10 years ago. Our cat has used it in winter all 10 years, but I’m always worried about him getting trapped (or evicted…one year an opossum moved in!). Last year we bought a new patio table & chairs and decided to protect it with a winter cover. After 10 years the cat now sleeps on one of the patio chairs under the table cover instead of his house. So he’d rather be cold and able to escape than warm and trapped by a wild animal. He also has no problem fending off raccoons that get too close. The raccoons cower and run away lol. He’s one tough cat!

**Q: Will this work ok for a 10 lb dog? I thought about maybe adding a heater because the temperature in my area drops below freezing in the winter.**
A: I absolutely cannot believe that anyone who would keep a little 10 lb dog out side, winter, spring, summer or fall can say they care about that little fella! A pet is family and if you can't/won't treat as such find someone who will or take it to a no-kill shelter where it can find a home where it is cherished and treated as part of the family, no more living or being put outside! Do you realize what a predator would do to this little thing? Winter, if it's too cold for you to go outside where your poor little pooch has to stay, and be in nothing but short sleeves, no coat, no blanket, no thermals, no nothing, just a thin short sleeve top/shirt and you cannot stay in the house it's in, or on the ground, or in the pen, or whatever/wherever without freezing and getting so cold your teeth chatter and you head for heat, then it's too cold for a 10 lb dog! I assume also, that it's most likely short hair....all the worse. But at 10 lbs NO!, this furbaby belongs inside on a nice cushy, warm bed. What you are doing is abuse, cruelty, neglect and actually torture. This pup can and is likely to freeze to death! I live in Ky. I don't know where the pup is but let me know and we will come get it and give it a great life! This is just horrible! Has it even had all it's shots, heartworm prevention, flea/tick/mosquito prevention and all the things a beloved pet should have?

**Q: can an electric heating pad be used on the inside?**
A: I wouldn't because you either snake the cord in through the opening back to the main sleeping area or you put it through the top which, in my opinion, would leave an air gap. Straw is the recommended bedding for outdoor cats in that anything else will hold moisture and be cold and wet. Straw is naturally insulating. I bought 4 of these shelters and lined the bottom with styrofoam planks to fill in the small gaps around the edges and put plenty of straw in the main area. I would never use any heating device on straw.

**Q: How many adult cats will fit in this?**
A: My 2 old feral cats (~10 lbs) would fit no problem and might be able to squeeze in a third. 2 cats the size of my latest feral (~14 lbs) would be snug. With just the 1 large feral there is room for a microwave heat pad.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Solid purchase to protect outdoor animals
*by L***R on June 4, 2026*

I purchased this cat house because I needed a weatherproof structure for feral cats that seek shelter around my home. A lot of enclosures I have bought previously were insulated, but not waterproof, so while the cats were not in direct rain or melting snow, the heating pads and their fur ended up always soaked. This structure is solid wood, with shingle-like material to repel water and melting snow. It has a large capacity and will allow at least two cats to use the space. It is heavy and will not move around as animals enter and leave. I love that the lid raises and lowers as this will be a much easier way to clean and maintain a house for outdoor animals. The lid is also angled so that melting water will run off rather than soak into the shelter. It was easy to assemble, but it did take a little time to build. The only cautions are: it does not have a second exit for feral animals. They sometimes prefer this as an escape route if they are cornered. Also, two of the pieces of this house that I received in the original shipment were broken. I contacted the manufacturer and after submitting photos, they promptly sent me replacement pieces. They were friendly and very customer-service oriented. Overall, I would recommend this cat house for anyone who wants to offer a more stable enclosure for any outdoor animal that will fit!
