I thought I was done with baby gates so I gave most of mine away. I set up two that I had left over- they were old-school. My last German Shepherd could actually unlock it, lift the lever and swing the door open. I have a new rescue puppy that is 6 months old. I thought my puppy days were in the rear-view mirror. But I'm a sucker for sad puppy eyes. I will be living the baby gate life for 1 1/2-2 more years. This new style of gate swings BOTH directions. If it's left unlatched, you still have to lift it to open it so smart dogs can't just figure it out and open the locking mechanisms. If you open it less than halfway, it closes on its own- great if your hands are full. If you open it all the way, it wall stay open. This extra tall feature also helps keep German Shepherd puppies from jumping over it easily. I ended up buying 4 of them. They come in extra long for wide areas. There are tons of lengths to choose from. We love them. The only feature they are missing is the one that teaches puppies to stay out of trouble.
