It has been through the shower, ocean water, lake water and it held up fabulously!!I just got this today, and to be honest, the cord does not feel like real leather. It feels more of a plastic type and we will see how long it actually last. The Freshwater Pearl does seem to be real and is a good size. I picked the 16 inch choker which fits perfect and doesn't actually choke me. The back also has a Freshwater Pearl with a loop that you can push through and that is how you attached the choker necklace. It is not adjustable but if it is too big you can always put a knot in the back to make it shorter.
