The AudioQuest Golden Gate cables strike a perfect balance between price & performance...
Ok, I've been listening to high-resolution audio from my custom-built PC (DSD & 24-bit FLAC files; Tidal streaming service) for the past 8 hours thru the AudioQuest Golden Gate interconnect & I can truly say that, even though this cable is far from broken-in, I can really hear a difference. I bought this cable to replace a MediaBridge model that was quite good considering its price point. When I upgraded to a new, more powerful integrated amp, I decided to up grade all my interconnects as well & decided that the Golden Gate models hit the right spot factoring price & performance. So, what have I noticed thus far? One, the highs have a clarity that wasn't there before. That crazy thing is that the overall "tone" hasn't gotten harsh because of it, either...it's just as if there's a lot "more" to each & every song. Bass has been improved as well...it's far more controlled now. Where before it simply was just "there", the Golden Gates allow the bottom-end to present itself as a real part of the music, giving it a true & cohesive presence. Mid-tones are simply more full, each song having a weight to it that the MediaBridge cable simply didn't let through. I suspect, as the Golden Gate continues to break-in, the soundstage will become wider, more open & overall extension to increase. There's a lot of debate as to what effect cable "upgrades" can have on a system. After all, signals either make to where they need to go or they don't, right? However, I subscribe to two theories regarding anything having to deal with electrical signals or current. The first: Given the choice, I'd like to provide as big/good a "hose" for the signals/current to flow as freely as possible. Second, while I may not be able to prove that they make a difference, I can say for certain that they aren't making things worse. The AudioQuest Golden Gate cables are very well made, use some of the highest quality materials & while not exactly inexpensive, aren't priced so high that your fiends & family will start to question your sanity. Consider them a rational upgrade to the ultimate goal of better, more enjoyable listening...

the gear is known and loved among audiophiles
While these are very high quality interconnects and quite expensive, I have to be very honest and say I could not hear the difference between a $10 interconnect. Your first thought may be it's my stereo gear and I assure you it's not. While my receiver and front speakers are 12 years old now, the gear is known and loved among audiophiles. The receiver MSRP was $3,500, the front speakers MRSP was $6,000 and my speaker cables MSRP was $700. So that's nearly $10,000 in just those components. It is worth every penny!! But this is about the interconnects. To be fair, I'm using the interconnects to play streaming music from my iPhone 6 Plus using the 3.5mm headphone jack. I'm just not thrilled with the sound from these interconnects. The soundstage is flat, the detail is lacking, and the illumination is dull. It just isn't there as it is from other sources such as CD or phono. Again, maybe I'm expecting too much with an iPhone as a source but I wouldn't recommend spending this much on interconnects if you're planning on using these for the same purpose I did. The lower priced interconnects worked just as well. I won't return these but I have no problem recommending the lower priced ones to most people.
