This stuff is crazy strong with an initial hit that seems like concentrated essence of the funkiest onion and garlic smell you can imagine. After that hits, there is a light undertone of a fresh, slightly herbal or citrus kind of scent. To store it, put the whole package of individually-wrapped packets into a glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. This contains all the odor so it doesn't leak into your pantry foods. To use it, break off a small chunk and drop it in a hot pan with oil. Use the back of a spoon to smash the pellet so it can dissolve into the oil. Or you can pre-grind it in a small mortar and pestle if you don't mind asafetida smell in your mortar and pestle. Normally I don't review the seller in a product listing, but there is only one seller for this product, so I'll say I was happy with the way it was packaged and shipped, straight from India to my front door! Of course it takes longer than products shipped from the USA, but it was worth the wait.

Bought the more expensive product from iindianstore and it seems to be the real thing. Yes, it stinks to high heaven as expected! I recommend ordering separate from any other item as you want this to ship alone. Only packaged in a couple of plastic bags and not sealed. Other items in the same box picked up the reek and they are not giving it up.

This what is called cooked Asafetida-Heeng which most of its raw benefits is gone. They cook it to reduce its smell, but unfortunately they killed more than 90% (if not 100%) of its purpose being a human health supportive. However, the only benefit you can get out of it is that it will make your cooking much better taste. I received it 2 weeks ago I'm not happy with it because it's not Raw! Thank you, by anyway

Label states 100% asafoetida. I believe all asafoetida is formulated with gum arabic. I waited almost a month for its delivery - well worth the wait. I store it in plastic in a mason jar on my pantry shelf. I recommend the purchase of this product - I found it fresh, aromatic, tasty and peppery. Well worth the wait for a quality product - purportedly free of wheat and rice - just what I wanted and needed. Thank-you MyBestBuyDeals and AMAZON for making this product available.

This is the real thing. Pure asafoetida sap. So it stinks...really an awful stink. Our mailbox still stinks a week after delivery. We tossed the outer envelope in the trash bin after opening the package. The trash bin still stinks a week later. Don't get me wrong; I love asafoetida and use it as a garlic/onion substitute in recipes since I can't eat those, but prior to this order I had always used a powdered version of asafoetida, which is cut with other substances like wheat to keep it powdery. This pure stuff is way, way, way to strong for our kitchen.

There is something weird going on with the links, just too be clear the asafetida sold by iindianstore was mostly pure. The stuff that I recently purchased sold by chandnibazzar is compounded garbage. Great stuff, nice and stinky. Although the weight is off . weighed it before removing it from the plastic wrapper that it was shipped in and it comes out to 59grams, this saddens me, will look for another vendor for future purchases. I've tried 4 other sellers so far that CLAIM to be selling pure hing, and they are not. This is the only seller thus far that I have tried that is selling good quality hing.
