Good but not great in comparison to Mate 10 Pro
I bought this specifically because the screen is larger than the Mate 20 Pro, and I like a large screen. I previously had the Mate 10 Pro and loved it. I'll be honest, I haven't noticed a big difference in performance between the 10 Pro and the 20. I love the bigger screen, without bezels it's beautifully larger, and not noticably larger in the hand. I prefer the camera on the 10 Pro better, it's easier to use and takes better pics. Migrating over from my 10 Pro was easy, as you would expect now. I used phone clone and Google and everything migrated over fine. There are some apps that still don't work well on Pie, or it could be this version of Pie, but I attribute that to developer update issues. Specifically, and ironically I had problems adding Alexa devices to my vacation home using this phone. I had to use my 10 Pro to add the echos. I got the international version of the Mate 20, it works fine on Cricket, which runs on At&Ts network. I had zero problems with Data, sms, MMS etc, it configured automatically. I wouldn't have even known it wasn't the US version and I haven't noticed the missing bands, reception had been fine. The speaker phone isn't as good as the Mate 10 Pro and that bothers me. It's fast, nothing has lagged and the phone hasn't frozen or rebooted, the UI is better... But hey, it's still EMUI and I really wish they would ditch it. I use an after market launcher to make it feel more familiar, but the UI is better than previous versions. I've had every version of Mate since the Huawei Ascend Mate 2, they make a good phone. In this version I'm a bit put off by some of the Huawei software that "needs" permission to access everything. Some of the apps are redundant, and unnecessary and I can't find a way to disable them, unlike previous versions. That's a bit concerning and I don't like not being able to disable certain apps. The bottom line is, it's a great phone for the money. I'm just not sure it's an $800 step up from the Mate 10 Pro, but that's just me being particular probably. I didn't notice enough of a gain in performance to make it worth it... But it's a great phone, especially if coming from a straight Mate 10 or 9. If the Mate 20 Pro screen was larger, I would have gotten that instead and possibly been a little happier. For most people this phone will probably be perfect though, and I'm probably being too picky.ETA 1/3/19- OK Google, AKA Google voice detective doesn't work on this phone. Known problem, but still not happy. Hopeful that they update via software fix in an App update...soon.

Lots of phone for the money.
As a previous owner of Samsung and LG products such as the LG v30,V20 LG G5, G4, G3 Note 8, S7 Edge, S6, Note 5,Note 4,3,2 and Og note as well as a nexus 4 phone.l, I can say this is the most Beautiful phone I've used, even though the screen isn't Amoled or oled the ips display is amazing. The LG V20 I owned can't compete with this screen the brightness of the Huawei is around 800Nits, brighter than the note 8 and oh man the performance of the mate 20 blows the Note 8 away. The kirin 980 cpu is as close as you can get to the new snapdragon on the s10. Camara is better than my Note 8 and good enough for mobile use. Over all its a great phone a cheaper S10 replacement.

One of the best
Previously owned the Mate SE and the Mate 20 is substantial improvement. The screen resolution and the camera are the features that really jumped out at me. The phone is basically all screen as well (barely notice the tiny notch) which was a major factor choosing this phone over the pro version. I'm not a big fan of the curved screen design but this one is flat edge to edge, which is perfect. Everything is really fast with the 6gb of ram and the Kirin 980 processor and the gesture mode makes navigation easy. No complaints for this phone.

Great battery life, super fast, well built
Great phone! Durable, stylish and fast! Well built and hasn't lagged at all after using it about a week now. Definitely worth it if you can't afford the money for the mate 20 pro. Processor and battery life are even better than with my mate 10 pro which is crazy! It last 22 hour easy with me using it all day. I do wish it was waterproof, only thing I'd change.

My second favorite phone of all time. It has the perfect balance between features and price. Bought it in February and it is still like day one.
