Q: Shouldnt butter always be stored in the refrigerator until ready to use it? How safe is it to keep out on the counter using this dish?

Salted butter does not have to be refrigerated.

Q: Does it hold European style butter blocks?

I'm not sure what size that would be, it holds a 1lb of butter but I only put in two quarters, I'm sure it will hold a brick of cream cheese.

Probably China that’s where everything comes from 😊
