Easy to use and amazing results!
These markers and crayons are amazing, and saved us hundreds of dollars, and hours of work!! We were having a garage sale, and a mattress was brought over to be sold. It was placed on the floor in my living room, which immediately became a trampoline for my daughter and niece. Unfortunately, the mattress had large industrial type staples in the bottom that dig into my wood flooring with each and every jump. Plus, as they jumped, the mattress scooted, causing long, horrid scratches that could be seen across the room. In order to replace the 2 planks that were scratched, we would have to rip up half the floor, and likely having to replace most of the planks. While searching for another option, I came across several wood markers, and after researching them, and reading reviews, I decided to give the Katzco ones a try. SO GLAD I DID!!!!! I no longer have to be embarrassed of the white scratches and craters in my cherry walnut colored floors, and my husband no longer has to hear my complain endlessly about it (these may have saved my marriage, who knows???) The markers are clearly marked for their color, with caps to match, and the crayons are very realistic to the colors they say they are. Since our flooring is variated in colors, we actually used 2 different crayons and markers. The entire process was easy peasy! The wax is pretty thick, and did a great job filling in the cracks. The larger cracks/craters didn’t fill up 100%, but just with the wax, already looked a hundred times better. The markers were very easy to use. They are slanted, and the tip is perfect for thinner cracks. We just traced the cracks and then rubbed off any additional paint with a shop towel. A few of the deeper cracks took a couple of passes with the marker. It took less than 5 minutes to take my floor from UGH back to GORGEOUS! So glad to have found these, next is our dresser and nightstands. (I didn’t think to take pics until we were almost done with the floor.)

Excellent Repairs! More tricks...
This product not only repairs nicks and scratches in wood and laminated products but is excellent for hiding the light exposed edge of veneers. This can dramatically improve the look of inexpensive laminated/veneered shelving, etc. I love these markers! Some Thoughts -- These are really juicy markers - pretty wet compared to conventional markers. There's a lot of stain in each one so you get good mileage out of each. This really offsets the whole issue of price vs not using all the colors. Also, the covers have a really positive snap fit - you have to push hard to click them closed but that should seal these up and keep them moist for a long time. Double check when you are done. The stain works best on unfinished/exposed wood (like the bottom of a scratch). Even fairly large unfinished areas take the stain uniformly without obvious striping from adjacent marker strokes. However, finished or non-absorbent surfaces are a little more problematic and are where quick smudging/blending with your thumb to feather the stain comes in. Veneer Edges -- For dressing the edge of finishing veneers on corners, hold the broad side of the marker at a 45 degree angle to the two corner faces and leaning forward a bit and just swipe the length of the edge lightly. There will be minimum contact to either of the two faces adjacent to the corner and very little if any color feathering required. Removing Excess Stain -- For hiding surface scratches the idea is to color the scratch but not the surrounding finished surface. This is virtually impossible considering the width of the marker tip, but it's pretty easy to remove the excess stain since it turns out the marker stain is alcohol-soluble. I use Zeiss Lens Cleaning Wipes (available on Amazon). They are soaked in alcohol, are lint-free, and have a relatively hard surface that does not easily deform into scratches/nicks when wiping. They only stay moist for a couple of minutes, but that's workable. So - use the marker to make the color repair, then rub the alcohol wipe lightly over the repaired area to remove the excess surface stain but leave the stain in the scratch which is below the surface. Wipe perpendicular to the scratch (cross-ways not long-ways) so the wipe will tend to skip over the stain in the scratch. Don't press down since that will push the wipe into the damaged area and remove the stain that you want to keep. Done. Since the wipes remove the stain easily, even botched color matches, etc are easy to clean up for another try. The alcohol wipes work great on laminates but use care on unwaxed wood surfaces since alcohol can remove existing stain. Anyhow - the photos show a quickie 2 minute repair to a badly scratched laminated desktop using the lens wipe technique. This nasty scratch has been there for years and is now virtually invisible. Amazing results!

Works pretty well for darker colors.
I have cherry stained maple kitchen cabinets. I used the Oak marker, which is the lightest. Both the maple and the cherry markers were too dark. Test in an inconspicuous spot, like the inside of a door or the back. I wiped down the spot with a damp paper towel, VERY LIGHTLY covered the spot with one pass of the marker and then IMMEDIATELY wiped it again with the damp paper towel. This worked well for small nicks and scrapes. It didn't work as well for larger areas where there was a large amount of the stain/finish missing. Those areas are more obvious that you've tried to cover it. It's not going to make your cabinets look brand new or refinished and you can still see the areas if you look closely, but for basic touch up where your kids (or the big kid you are married to) have made some nicks and dings, it works pretty well. If you have natural oak or maple, these colors are all probably too dark. The wax sticks worked OK for blending the larger areas, but they too are darker than you would think.

Useful but not perfect
They are helpful but color names do not match those actual woods. However, when you are able to match markers to your wood color it looks great!

Follow the instructions.
For this price this repair kit is awesome! I’m obsessed, now I want to fix every scratch I find on my wood furniture around the house. Bold nice colors, good variety. Unfortunately Amazon didn’t let me upload the pictures before/after, but I really like it, the results are amazing. Recommend. If you add too much of a product, you can remove with nail polish remover. And it is important to wipe the excess immediately after applying, the product comes with a soft polishing cloth specifically for that.

Fantastic
I have not used the wax crayons yet, but the stain markers are fantastic! We had some pretty big scrapes on our chairs after a move but I used the stain marker to make them less obvious and they look SO much better now (see before and after pics). You almost can’t tell all unless you shine a bright light directly on the area. These were such an affordable fix for our furniture, love these so much!!

No returns! Colors misrepresented!
Be careful, no returns! They recently changed the product. I purchased these two years ago and they were great on my cherry kitchen cabinets, matched perfectly!! BUT—Reordered new ones recently and used the same color cherry I had before and it is a bright stop sign red!! it looks like a bright red child’s marker! Does not remotely resemble cherry wood. Really disappointed, my cabinet “repair” now looks worse. The caps do not remotely match or represent the ink of each pen. Try a tiny test spot if you purchase these.

Works as advertised... maybe even better!
We bought this kit after some of our items were scratched during the move to our new home. Now I have been using it to touch up dings and scratches from normal, everyday use of many of our wooden pieces! The variety of colors included have been plenty to take care of scratches in our light oak, dark oak, maple and cherry pieces. Art frames, bed frames, roll top desk, jewelry boxes, and more look unmarred now, even from up close. Read the instructions, and in particular the part about using the lightest color possible to effect the repair. You can always go a shade darker if needed, but you cannot make a repair lighter (at least not easily). The markers and repair sticks are labeled as to the color of finish they most closely match. I have found them to be pretty spot-on. I was concerned the first time I used a marker on a light-oak piece that was satin finish, not shiny. The marker went on shiny and kind of stood out, especially when the repair was looked at from an angle. But in a couple of minutes whatever solvent is used to hold the pigments in suspension had evaporated and the repair became nearly invisible. When used on shiny cherry finished bedroom furniture the shine still came through after the repair sat for a bit... so it seems to work well on any type of finish. All in all I highly recommend this kit to touch up the finish on scratched, dinged wood. I find it very satisfying to make scratches disappear that have annoyed me for a long time. Seriously almost zen.
