Complete Dulcimer Handbook

This is probably a good book to learn the dulcimer. But I wouldn't know for sure because it's unreadable in the Kindle version. It seems like this book was converted from a .jpg file because you can only enlarge the pages by double tapping as if it were a photo. There is no "spread and pinch" on a page as normal. The type is so small you can hardly see it. Once you double tap the page to make it larger, you have to scroll from side to side to actually read it. You can't turn your Kindle sideways because the page doesn't adjust.I'm sure it's not the author's fault. Either Amazon or the publisher, whomever converted the book to Kindle format, screwed it up.Do not buy the Kindle version. Stick with the dead tree version, it'll save your eyes from a lot of strain.UPDATE - Feb. 20, 2016: (I updated the original 1 Star rating to reflect the new version of the book). So I contacted Amazon Customer Service and got a refund for the horrible Kindle version of the book. I went ahead and bought the paperback - what a difference! The book is very well laid out and you can work through it at your own pace. It explains the concepts very clearly and has plenty of songs with TAB in DAd and DAA tunings.One thing I find kind of funny is that the author keeps referring to the book as the "Whole Dulcimer Handbook" which is so '60s. There was a popular book published in the late '60s called the "Whole Earth Catalog," which this is trying to emulate I guess. This book is probably an updated version of an older edition. Still, the information on how to play the Dulcimer hasn't changed much and is still applicable to today'splaying styles.Buy this book in paperback if you want to learn to play the Dulcimer, or if you want to learn chording or fingerstyle playing. Stay away form the Kindle version until the publisher figures out how to convert older publications to Mobi files correctly.

Helps a lot while learning the dulcimer. could not do much without it.

Guys this is bad for kindle, this should be out of kindle options. I will ask for a refund and buy the paperback, but please, don't make others pay for digital if is not ready.

There doesn't seem to be any way to increase the text size. I shouldn't have to have a microscope to read this If this is what I can expect from Amazon then I have bought my last book from Amazon.

I hesitated quite a while before I downloaded the kindle version of this beatiful book. The reason was the suggestion in an earlier review that it was kindle - «unreadable». Well, I'm happy to tell it works perfect on my Ipad!

There is so much material in this book, especially when compared to some newer offerings from the same imprint!The lessons actually teach you to play, and to understand what you are doing. The author teaches you so much that you will be able to arrange your own songs for dulcimer by the time you finish part one, or maybe earlier.The different modes are explained in different ways so one of the explanations should make sense, and if none do, so what? You will still be learn to tune to them and play them.This one book will keep me busy for 6 months to a year, easily, and teach me so much more than the others I have looked at.I bought it on Kindle for iPad. It rotates and enlarges with no problems.
